Instead of the showdance what would you like to see?

Hello

I know that the showdance can divide opinion somewhat, so I was wondering what people would like to see in place of the showdance in the final - if it were to be changed?

My thoughts:-

The dance that they currently pass over - so two previously performed dances and a new one?

Three dances that have been danced - one chosen by the judges, one by the couple and one by the public?

A rivals dance - so a dance which was previously done by an eliminated couple?

A fusion dance of two different styles (eg cha cha cha and argentine tango)

or a every couple does the same dance to the same music so to see who interprets and performs it the best?

Or something else???

It wouldn't be that hard to rework the show so that no 'main' dance is skipped (and I'd do that before the final week, as an extra dance style to learn is probably a bit tough on the competitors). Granted, if it replaces the showdance, it would probably balance out, so I might also keep that.

My inner sadist has 2 more ideas:

- competitor's choice: a dance your competitors would like you to do again
- lowest scoring dance: a reprise of your lowest scored dance

I wouldn't be too surprised if both of these were the same dance.

Something that might be entertaining is a dance equivalent of sight-reading (something like they are played some music, have 5 minutes to think about it, then all have to do some sort of dance). That might be my inner sadist at work too though

I like the idea of the showdance, but most of them are crap.

Duelling, definitely duellling, swords or pistols I really don't mind.

I'd like to keep with showdance.

I am sure one of the formats, maybe Latvia, does two couples dancing the same choreo.
Not sure whether as a DO or direct comparison but even with split screen it is dull to watch. Nicer would be given the same music and asked to do a different interpretation to it. (Does not even need to be same dance, on DWTS they have done this with acoustic slow vs fast tempo versions of same song).
Like the idea of the dance they've avoided in the final *cough Anton samba cough*
Also am a!one in this but like swing/lindy hop.
But freestyle is a dance I look forward to, even though it inevitably disappoints.
That said, DWTS Amber Riley freestyle was wonderful.

I detest the liftathons (also known as showdances.)

Something/anything would be an improvement for me.

I really dislike show-dances, I can't think of one which I preferred over a couples other dances. So I'd pick anything over them. Perhaps the dance that the couple skipped in the competition?

I would like to see a showdance in the way it was supposedly meant to be at the beginning,

A dance to show all they have learnt through the series.

So none of this contemporary, writhing on the floor stuff. Pick latin or ballroom (or both!) and devise a dance that can incorporate many, if not all, the dances they have learned in that genre. Make Dave Arch earn his money and arrange the music so it moves and changes with each style.

Don't put anything in they could do before, like gymnastics, tap dancing, hip hop etc.

BIB - you could combine the two (of course without the swords or pistols ) but have a dance cuel. Have a song or piece of music played and then two pros have to choreograph a dance to that music, teach their celeb partner and then they and their respective celeb partner face off against the other couple almost like that song 'It's Like That' by RUN-DMC vs Jason Nevins (or basically that music video but more ballroom/latin!)

I like the idea of couples dancing the same dance to the same choreography- it would really highlight the superior dancer/ technique or those who have got the feel/ emotion of the dance better.

I've not liked most showdances, but I'm not sure what else gives them that final statement, not that showdances in the past have all done that, most have failed.

As said above, I think their showdance, whatever it be, should be latin or ballroom based, as what's the point to have learnt so much to then showcase some contemp stuff as a finale piece. i know contemp stuff can be nice, but it doesn't demonstrate the latin and ballroom work that has been slogged over all the previous weeks.

I'd like the show to run long enough so that the winners have danced all the latin and ballroom dances by the time it comes to their show dance. It can be done, I presume, but obviously the show will run a tiny bit longer, or they just extent some main shows (like this semi) so that they do more than one dance once the couple numbers become reduced. Mathematically I, on the spot, can't figure out how many shows would be more viewer friendly to include all the dances (for those that reach that later stage), but surely it can be worked out.

I like a lot of these.
Especially the same dance/music option.

Do often think the show dance is often the worst dance any couple do in the competition.

Did rather like Caroline and Pasha's contempowaft last year but that's the only one

I'd like this idea but for the semi-final, as I do look forward to watching the showdances although I'm usually disappointed by them.

I adore the idea of showdances, but find them a bit naff. They always seem to end up like one of those dishes with too much everything ...

"Coriander-marinaded chicken breast seethed in squid ink resting on a puree of pancetta-studded beetroot and served with a mandarin jus"

... when really, perfect roast chicken is so much better.

I would like them to keep the showdance, but make 2 other rules.

1) The showdance MUST be based on standard Ballroom and Latin dances, nor contemporary or tap or whatever.

2) That the dances throughout the series should be more authentic and less "Showdance" as they nearly all are at the moment.

I used to think that once they got a bit of experience, an interesting experiment would be to pair up the celebs together for a 60 second spin round the floor. Then it falls down as Jay would have to partner 4 ladies (reminds me of the "this time make it progressive" for the Barn Dance/Gay Gordon". Then 2 years ago with 4 women in the final it would only be 1 more step to the same sex couples entries suggested by Craig.

A "Who Danced It Better" dance swap -- something like:

Anita & Gleb dancing Georgia's Charleston
Georgia & Giovanni dancing Katie's American Smooth
Katie & Anton dancing Kellie's Quickstep
Kellie & Kevin dancing Jay's Jive
Jay and Aliona dancing Anita's Tango

Oooo competitive! I like the sound of that because i find myself thinking that certain music choices and choreography from certain couples danced would be better with other couple.

I have also wondered to myself how a celeb dance would go.... So imagine there was 2 male and 2 females in the final... They have to dance with each other and not their pro, that way we would see who really comes into their own

Yes! and another Yes! I've always thought dance swaps would be very interesting. Or Dance partner swaps even.

That's actually a pretty cool idea! I wouldn't be averse to the producers ditching showdances in place of that.

Yeah, I do think it's fresh and very interesting. A different take on the competition side of things.
