Multi purpose speakers, any recommendations?
Hi I wonder if you could help me. Maybe this isn't possible but I'm after a speaker that would connect to a tv to play spotify free account via my playstation 4, also connect up to use as chromebook or laptop speakers to listen to spotify via the webplayer which I understand would play the free spotify like my desktop does.
Could one speaker connect to a tv and a laptop and if so do you have any recommendations, budget would be £60 - £150 Cheers Phil |

I am assuming you mean a speaker with built in amplifier as a speaker on it's own would be no use for the things you have mentioned. The speaker doesn't care what it is connected to. The only criteria it is concerned about is what type of audio output the various devices have and whether or not the speaker has a corresponding input.
Most speakers will have some sort of analogue input. Either on a 3.5mm jack or phono sockets. If the devices you want to connect to have some sort of analogue audio output then it is simple to interconnect the two. A common connection would be a headphone socket which will connect to the speaker just as well and allows you to use the volume control on the source device rather than the speaker. One thing to look out for though is that a lot of modern TVs don't fit any analogue outputs. Even a headphone socket is not guaranteed to be fitted. It is common to find digital outputs. To recommend anything though we need some more information. No point recommending something the size of a rock band's PA stack if you need something that fits in a pocket (or vice versa) ![]() So what sort of size are you looking for? Do you want totally portable speakers (ie battery powered) or will you only be using them where mains power is available? What audio outputs are available on the kit you want to plug the speaker into? |
