Is it possible to have broadband and talk from two separate providers? I currently have broadband and talk with BT, but I'm considering a move to Sky for my talk package. How does that affect line rental charges?

I think it depends what type of Internet you have. If its a non-fibre package then yea you can probably change phone providers.

If its a fibre package then I'm not sure. I think when they sell you the fibre package it auto includes the phone (voice) section to.

Thanks Bowdon. I do currently have fibre broadband with BT but Sky don't offer as good a speed in my area. However, their talk package works out cheaper. I may need to discuss it with both parties and see what is and isn't possible.

Your speeds from both BT and SKY should be about the same as they both use the same local loop (wires from the exchange to your house) a its this that affects your speed so being with sky shouldnt affect this

According to all the websites I've checked, the maximum Sky can offer me is up to 38Mbps. BT currently offer me up to 80Mbps. Does that sound wrong?

BT and SKY fibre are both provided by BT so if one offers a speed the other will offer the same
and SKY would probably give you an offer to take the 80meg option

Don't know about that, when I asked about it they seemed quite reluctant to want to sell it and told me the deal I had with BT was better and wouldn't even look if they could do anything...they don't make it that easy to find on the website either, unless it's changed since I last looked.

Thanks for that - I am aware of their Fibre Pro package but it never shows up as an option when I check the comparison websites, only the 38Mbps comes up.


I had thought this, but as the 76Mbps option never shows up in searches I always assumed it wasn't available.


I couldn't find it that easily on the website, either. It's not a package they push all that much.
