I think I will go with 88 to 89 with Den and the Firm

And then 94 to 96 then 98 to 99 , mostly because of the Mitchell Brothers

Early 90s was boring to me .... the Taveniers were a yawnfest and so was Diane Butcher and her storylines

From a purely objective standpoint, the “golden” eras of EastEnders in the '80s and '90s stand thus: 1985—88 and 1991/92—95.

As for my personal favourites, then, in addition to the foregoing, some of 1998 and large chunks of 1999 were solid, I felt.

The late eighties/early nineties "comedy" period was dire and probably the closest EastEnders has ever come to being axed in its thirty-year history. The mid-late nineties were rather lacklustre and of them 1997 was a particularly low point. The Fowlers week in Ireland was a disaster.

I read that the next producer changed the comedy aspect in 1990, axing a lot of characters, including Julie the hairdresser

1996 was quite good , but to me 1997 was also a bad year .... minus the Ricky stag do thing . I hated Mary Flaherty , but didn't mind the dad, Connor

1993 was pretty weak too I think

1993 was boring in parts but definitely part of the second "golden" era. It set up nicely for 1994, which was a standout EE year, IMO. The Sharongate reveal was utterly sensational.
