now tv

Im thinking of buying a now tv box for an older neighbour
They like their movies and the now tv offer of 2 months for £14.99 now tv box looks good.

But, one thing they will not do is use a credit card
So with this offer, can they just plug it in and start watching or do they need to add a credit card during any registration
They will after the two months just use the box for catchup like iplayer. Do hope you can do that too?

The 4 months movies for £19.99 is a better offer if you can find one in stock in your area.

Yes you will have to use a debit/credit card to watch the movies. But I have never had any problems cancelling. I bought the 4 months for my parents recently and just used my card and set it up for them so I have a diary note to login and cancel when it's due to expire.

And yes you can still use the box for the non subscription apps once the movies subscription ends.

Thanks, there is no way they would entice the idea of any credit card association
Oh well will have to think of something else
Its just a thankyou for some good neighbourly deed during the summer
They would love catchup, so thought I might bring it somehow to them but they are really not technical, no computer or tablet (they do have wifi though that their disabled son uses, he lives in a converted annexe flat on the side of their house)
I often use their wifi to show them the odd thing
They have the one hd tv they bought a few years back with no smart tv in, they need it simple and I thought a now tv might just help with a nice bonus of some movies and catchup tv/radio

Did think of a roku for their catchup, but at £39 they would not be happy for me to spend that much on them I expect
But Im not sure how easy the roku streaming stick is to use (needs a computer or tablet I think) and if it has all the catchup apps and its also mentions credit cards on setup.

I use 3 x Roku boxes and one stick all on one account and the credit card I think is more to do with identification reasons than paying for stuff, though of course it’s the paying for stuff that they want you to do. Never paid a penny since setting up, what must be now, more than a year.

With the Roku account you can setup the account with a card then set a PIN so no one can buy anything accidently or other wise, that’s what I do. The Roku sticks and boxes are best IMHO for catch-up and they also handle HD very well.

I don't know if it still applies but you used to be able to put fake CC details in when registering with Now TV,
the other option would be to put your card details in then immediately cancel the subscription, the free period would still work for the 2 or 4 months depending on which offer you buy and stop on the last day of that period.

Thanks guys
If it were me I'd have no problem entering card details
But my neighbours would not and I certainly would not do it for them
Looks like I will look elsewhere for a pressie for then

Amazon are selling the new NOW black boxes for £19 with 4 months movie voucher or 6 month entertainment voucher. Just bought one this morning with a small present to take me over £20 for free p and p.

Your best bet for your neighbour is to buy them the Nowbox without any passes. They can use all the catchups without ever having to register with Sky.

Someone has to register with Sky, they don't subsidise those boxes for nothing. So it would have to be the poster then.

Actually no they don't. My girlfriend didn't trust them to look after her details safely so has never given any details and her box is still working fine after 2 years. She did forego the 30 day free trial for movies though because that would've meant registering.

cody, you try to activate a new box today and you'll see. Also make sure she never has to reset the box otherwise it will be stuck at the username and password prompt.
