Hi

All my fragrances seem to be summery, not v appropriate for this time of year. Can anyone recommend a perfume that is suitable for winter and Christmas; maybe a little spicy? Nothing too "in your face" (I hate Poison!) and nothing horrifically expensive.

Any suggestions, please let me know! Thanks!

Allure by Channel is perfect for winter. I tend to swap to lighter in Summer, but its a beautiful fragrance with just a little spice.

Tom Ford - Black Orchid is my favourite or YSL Opium

Paloma Picasso, it's a bit old now but it still smells bloody gorgeous and totally head turning.

I would have said La Perla too but they've really changed the formulation, it smells like a totally different perfume.

Trouble by Boucheron is one of my favourites

I second this choice. It is the only perfume I use.

Karma by Lush- and it's cruelty free- not that anyone seems to care these days.

That's lovely as a few of theirs are. I might buy some as is relatively inexpensive.

My top 'warm' and 'spicy' fragrances are;

Dior: Hypnotic Poison
Dior: Dolce Vita
DKNY: Delicious Night
Jean Paul Gaultier: Classique

These all remind me of winter/ Christmas and I only tend to wear them at this time of year.

From a bloke's point of view – Angel.

I'd fancy a goat if it was wearing that.

yet I think that is one of the most horrible perfumes I've ever smelled...perfume is definitely down to the individual but handy to have a few names to try when looking of popular ones

That is one of the most seriously alluring perfumes I've ever encountered. I'm so addicted to it that I bought some for a girlfriend and had to ask her if she could spray some onto a handkerchief so that I could sniff it when she wasn't around. It does weird things to me that I'm not sure I want to talk about. It is positively evil, but I love it.

I have a friend who knows not to wear it when we meet up - it's migraine in a bottle for me, absolutely foul stuff.

It seems obvious that most women wear perfume to make a statement to other women, as men generally dislike the vast majority of perfumes. Many years ago, there was a foul smelling perfume called Poison, which used to make working in an office unbearable – and that was at a time when offices were already filled with cigarette smoke.

Worst of all though, was one called Issy Miyake, which loads of women used to wear, but which smelled exactly like dried urine and was thoroughly offensive.

i had the most appalling 34 hour flight from australia where the woman on one side of me sprayed her duty free Poison all over herself continuously and on the other side i has Samsara woman. I get traumatic flashbacks whenever i get a whiff of either of them.....

I got my o/h Molton Brown's Bracing Silver Birch aftershave/ toilette and I could honestly say I'd wear it too- it's gorgeous, like a frosty morning.

I don't believe any woman wears perfume for that reason.

I'm a guy for the record.

Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle. I guess it's got oriental edges to it, but I think this is one of the best fragrances for women. I can make out the spicy citrus notes in the opening, which remind me of Christmas, and then it has a really nice vanilla touch to it.

It's one of my favourite perfumes to smell when others wear it. I find it to be quite a warm fragrance, which is perfect for the time of year, and it's what I'd say is a subtle spicy/floral scent.

Calvin Klein Obsession. There was a time when it seemed a lot of women wore this, so I do get a bit of nostalgia whenever I smell it but to me this works now. I wear the version for men a bit around this time of year. It's another warm one and does last a while.

I still have a bottle that I bought four years ago. I bought it because I read somewhere that zoo keepers discovered that big cats such as lions and tigers find it absolutely irresistible, so by some kind of convoluted logic I thought it must work on women.

I quite like the smell of James Bronnley Eau do Toilette (think wood smoke, orange peel and just a hint of dried urine - although that might have been me). The only trouble is that a single application lasts about ten minutes.

Thanks for sharing - that's been one of my many laughs today!

They reckon that the ingredient Hedione is supposed to be a stimulant for women - I'm not sure I completely buy into all of that, but anything's worth a go. I believe it was originally used in Dior's Eau Sauvage and has been used in CK One.

Aargh! Wearing perfume/cologne on a plane is just rude.
