Wahey lets do it all again

Welcome to the NINTH annual Christmas Radio Times Countdown Thread (incorporating Christmas TV)

Last year was a record breaker on the thread with more posts than ever, more views than ever and more people taking part in the quiz and cover competition

If your a lurker or have never posted before , why not join us in our debates - we ALL have an opinion on Christmas TV past, present and future.

What would you like to see on TV this Christmas?
What will ITV do with the two hour Downton Abbey slot on Christmas Night? Give us your thoughts.

Although Radio Times is in the title of the thread we dont confine ourselves just to that magazine , we do discuss all the listing mags but it seems only the RT amazes or irritates us with the choice of cover (the others have Santa in some form or soap stars)

If you read in the press or on social media about any new Christmas TV programme then let us know and keep up to date with the fabulous archive of http://ukchristmastv.weebly.com run by our own Claires_dad or follow him on twitter @UKChristmasTV

Why not post your fantasy schedule

Join us for our quizzes and competitions - some dates to look out for

January - A new quiz based on the Christmas TV we have just watched (hosted by pembo)
August 21 - 16 October - wizzywicks Christmas TV quiz
November - The legendary Claires_dad Guess the cover competition - with the priize of starting next years thread)
December - The Ratings Game - choosing six programmes which you think will be the most watched on Christmas Day

Now the bad news - Because of the way the calendar falls this year;s issue WILL NOT cover the New year Holiday weekend so will run from December 17 -30 and be on sale in some regions on Saturday December 3

So Happy New Year to you all and look forward to another lively year on the thread

Finally my thanks to judomole for allowing me the honour of starting this thread

Frozen is likely and probably the usual lot from this year as well as some new Christmas films.

We have seen the shocking, the entertaining, the brilliant announcements, the amazing Christmas covers, discounts, magazine issues, gadgets, decorations, predictions, rants, prizes, songs, presents, cards, TV ad's, promotions, indents and of course the odd bit of Christmas kisses and weddings

Now with all of Christmas 2015 announced, it's time to start the biggest, most sensational, tear dropping, gobsmacking Christmas thread which Digital Spy tried to put down the chimney

THE OFFICIAL CHRISTMAS RADIO TIMES COUNTDOWN AND CHRISTMAS TV THREAD 2016

Over the next 12 months and 12 days we will predict the schedules, Radio Times Cover Price, (And the cover itself) TV Programs, get involved in competitions, general chats and discussions and have the usual fun games here on the thread as the weeks and days past by. As usual you can spread the discussion, fun and games across the world on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat, I'm also creating a hashtag for this years thread, the official hashtag is.... (Drumroll...........)

#TOCRTCACTVT2016

Now let's get to the important bits and pieces.

Thanks for putting the links to the previous year's threads but you obviously haven't read them as one of the prizes from the Guess the Cover quiz I do is the honour of starting the new thread for the next year which Marke09 was going to do on 20th December.

Obviously I'm aware anyone can start a thread but it's not very honourable of you

Apologises for that, didn't know that even happend but thanks for noting me.

We might as well stick to this thread, no point of creating another if we already have a 2016 thread done.

PS: Thanks for the lovely comments about the OP

Your rather casual apology and attitude suggests to me that you knew exactly what you were doing, and the fact you took time to trek through the archives to find past threads also confirms to me that you are absolutely aware of the Countdown Thread and its annual events. Of course you will deny it, and I will of course drop the subject, but the fact you say "Oh well, might as well use this thread now I've created it" suggests you have little regard for long term regulars and contributors.

Still, it's Christmas, season of goodwill to all men, so we'll leave it there.

Its just a thread at the end of the day guys no matter who starts it, it's what we contribute that's the important thing, does anybody really know the reason who is behind starting it apart from a handful of people, most contributors wouldn't care , is it a kudos thing?

Indeed. But the crux of the matter is that it WAS started when it shouldn't have been, and I suspect strongly the person who started it knew that. It's funny isn't it, the OP was not a frequenter or contributor to the 2015 thread yet mysteriously, out of the blue, started the new thread with the exact same wording as last year's. As a contributor to the thread since 2009, the little "family" we have developed has basically grown and grown and we all share and offer the same mutual respect towards each other.

Yes, you are right, in the grand scheme of things it is just a thread. A triviality when all is said and done. But there are principles and principles are values of courtesy and politeness.

you're right i suppose wizzy , that's maybe why it should be started like you suggested straight way after the winner is announced, i just worry that if a new one is started they will get merged and we are back to this one again i just think why its here we may as well use it

Yes, next year, as soon as the Winner is announced, the "winner" should start the next year's thread. As long as it exists it doesn't need to be used straight away, but the problem of someone mischievously starting the thread wouldn't arise. Also, it wouldn't be a bad idea to let the moderators know that the thread is started by tradition, by a competition winner that a poster takes a lot of time and trouble to organise.

This thread really should not have been created seeing as the honour of doing so is a prize that has already been won by someone else. The person who created it should request a mod lock/delete it or else we will have to think they did this as a deliberate spoiler.

Why just the limit to three decades? I remember Christmas TV in the early sixty' so a. D found it more exiting and compelling than anything in the period you have selected.

Your welcome Have a Good Christmas
Part of the guess the cover prize should be to start the new thread OR nominate who does . Sorry you got jumped may I suggest whoever gets the honour for 2016 does so immediately on the day the winner of the cover competition is announced

I think the least the OP can do is edit his first post and cut and paste the above introduction to the thread from Marke09 into the top of the first post

Mods - can you please just delete this thread so we can start again properly.

I assume the majority would support that.
