Good programme to watch out for next Wednesday on BBC 4 if you like your history of TV - a programme looking at TV and Radio Quiz shows

Radio Times saying that Sports Personality of the Year starts at 6pm this year - which i think confirms that the Apprentice final will air after it from 9

I think Jonathan Creek has probably got that slot now anyway. Last Tango in Halifax I think will be showing before Christmas or possibly on Friday the 30th

It seems certain it will have the winners weekend branding again then.

Think they really ought to shift Doctor Who from Christmas Day. Viewers for regular episodes were down a lot in 2015 and they really can't justify keeping Bake Off from Christmas Day unless they use the argument that this is when DW has always been on,

Is Jonathan Creek feature length? It is possible MOTD could be relegated to BBC2. I somehow doubt it though.

When was Iron Man 3 shown last year? Captain America Winter Soldier to take that slot, no?

Wasn't it the first Saturday in Jan?

Doctor Who had the 7th highest rating on Christmas Day last year and is also shown on Christmas Day on BBC America.

Can't see Bake Off being on Christmas Day if they are baking Christmas food as people may wish to try the recipes.

I don't like that they've put these two on the same night now. It leaves the following Wednesday (or Thursday this year) bare and packs too much into one night. I was hoping they would keep The Apprentice for Thursday 22nd December and allow SPOTY to take centre stage from around 7:30pm.

That aired on Saturday 2nd January IIRC. It could possibly air Boxing Day like Avengers Assemble the year before? If not maybe hold it back for 2nd January since it's a bank holiday.

Agreed! As much as I would love to see Bake Off on Christmas Day, it would be much more suited as a pre-Christmas show. For me, I've always thought a Bake Off Christmas Special would be perfect Christmas Eve viewing. Maybe part 1 on Wednesday and part 2 on Christmas Eve. It would probably get a much nicer figure on Christmas Eve too.

With Christmas Eve being on a Saturday you are likely to also get. Saturday Kitchen, possibly another cookery programme after hat, you could end up with Cookery Overkill.

I see Captain America was made in 2014. Does that make 2nd Jan more likely?

Possibly a good way to finish off the Festive period, I guess it would fit in well, between Eastenders, and the news and football

And it gets round the three year rule as it were yes? For years I thought it had to be a minimum of three years.

Problem with Christmas Eve is (i might get into trouble here) the target audience mainly females will be busy preparing for the next day - present wrapping, preparing the dinner, some will be travelling to family - others to early church services so i doubt Christmas Eve

New For 2016!!
Become a Christmas TV Scheduler and try and win a prize!

THE SCHEDULING GAME

For the first time ever, enter those fantasy schedules into a competition! We all love devising fantasy schedules, so this year, I thought I'd launch a contest to try and establish just how good at scheduling we are!

If you would like to enter, choose any day or channel from the list below and simply try and work out what will air in what slot.

All you need do is create a schedule from 1pm until 11pm (give or take 20 minutes either side).

Then send me your schedule via Personal Message (so that your schedule doesn't influence others) between 5pm on Tuesday November 22nd and 5pm on Thursday November 24th.

Please don't send your schedules until 5pm because it won't be counted. Likewise, sending your schedule after 5pm on the 24th will result in me not accepting it.

The person who's schedule is closest to the actual schedule will win a brand new book of Radio Times Crossword puzzles.

If there is more than one winner, then all names will be put in a hat and a name selected randomly.

If there are no winners, then the person who included four correct programmes into their schedule will win. If there aren't any posters who scheduled four, then it will be three, then two then one.

I will not accept EastEnders, Emmerdale or Coronation Street as one of those "correct" programmes.

Also worth remembering is that whilst I realise that News has to be scheduled, you will only get recognition if your News programmes are scheduled in the same slots as the official schedules!

So, there you go. Now for the days that you can schedule programmes for:

CHRISTMAS EVE BBC1
CHRISTMAS EVE ITV
CHRISTMAS DAY C4
BOXING DAY BBC1
BOXING DAY ITV
HOLIDAY TUESDAY BBC1
HOLIDAY TUESDAY ITV

I would like ONE schedule per person. So you can choose any option from the above list, but just one!

All schedules that I receive via PM, will be posted on the forum on Thursday evening (24th November) (from 7pm).

So, today, at 5pm, the competition opens for 48 hours only!

It a one off special so yes it will be which would lead nicely into match of the day and the news before the new year concert. Although one other since still game was recently showing on BBC one network could the new year special Scotland always seem to have get a network showing this year. If so then that could bump Jonathan Creek to Friday 30th or possibly Holliday Tuesday

I can only accept one schedule from each participant. Alternative schedules are not permitted. You can choose a schedule from any of the days listed in the guide above, but Christmas Day is only available for a channel Four schedule only.

Oh the moaners have started - same old BBC stuff full of repeats? Rubbish im going to Netflix! Same old programmes with a bit of tinsel around? I have asked then what they actually want to see at Christmas? Be interesting to see what replies I get if any

I think this year is a strong one with many original productions

Funny those who live outside the UK would prefer our programmes to the ones they get in their countries

I agree, thought the newspapers were negative with their comment "Out of the 35 programmes BBC have announced for Christmas only 8 are new productions"

Surely 8 new is an excellent number!

Indeed. And I would bet that between Christmas Eve 6pm - Boxing Day after MOTD, the programmes shown on BBC One will be all brand new and previously unseen on the BBC.

I get fed up with the moaners!

Often the same people who complain about the licence fee will be the same who complain that the BBC isn't doing enough
