I'm guessing that the series will launch at Christmas with the first two episodes airing over the Christmas season. Perhaps the first episode will be set at Christmas?

I know this is the Christmas thread but what do people think will be the Easter cover this year and will it all be the same bank holiday stuff they dish up each year?

Anne Reid said they are only making a 2 hour Christmas Special, she wasn't expecting a new series as the writer is too busy with other projects.

There have been black actors on television and the UK has had sitcoms consisting of an all black cast, it has a current sitcom of a Muslim family, it has had sketch shows featuring Indian comedians, it has had Lenny Henry in dramas and in dramas he penned, Idris Elba in Luther, Adrian Lester leading the cast in Hustle. People generally don't notice whether people are black or white. If something is good on TV, then people will watch regardless of what skin colour someone has. The lead actress in Death in Paradise is mixed race, plus we've had a dramatisation of the First Ladies Detective Agency which had an all star cast. I personally think it's time black actors took their chips off their shoulders. They also have to remember that ratio wise, there are far more white people in the west than black people, so it can never be a fair balance because then it would under represent the white population. There. Rant over. |

My God, how long is this boring "no black actors on TV and it's not good enough" bollocks going to continue? Now David Harewood is going on about it. I think if people keep banging on about race it undermines it because people start noticing it but in a negative way.

Well if i were a black actor id want to be picked on merit not part of a quota and no disrispect to the winner of the newcomer award last night as ive not seen him act but did the row over the coloured acts work in his favour
Another complaint from Idris Elba was that he gets annoyed with black men being cast as gangsters or the baddies. Well, if I was black and had a problem with being cast negatively, then I wouldn't accept the job. I don't work anywhere that conflicts with my morals. |

Seems that Ben Preston has finally lost the plot. According to a poster over in the ratings thread, the Radio Times has removed Channel 5 from its main channel listings pages and relegated it to the freeview pages. On the main channel pages they've replaced Channel 5 with BBC4. Seems the RT is getting to become a more muddled read than before and in my view, it is a daft idea!

Or it might be based on feedback as to which are the more viewed channels. I quite like the idea; I don't always notice what's on BBC Four, and I watch a bit more of it than I do Channel 5. |

That seems odd now that Radio Times is no longer a BBC publication! On the other hand I also watch loads more on BBC4 than I do on Channel 5 |

Just opened my Radio Times to see that Channel 5 (Share 4.39%) had been replaced by BBC Four (Share 0.84%).
Editor's explanation:- "This week you'll notice a few changes. In particular, we've listened to our many readers who love BBC Four. So you'll now find BBC Four alongside the big four channels on our main TV spread each day. We've also made the daytime listings easier to read with bigger type. Channel 5 has a new home over the page alongside our detailed Freeview channels and there's more space for another of your favourites, the Drama channel." I find those very strange decisions - and the daytime type is barely noticeable as bigger. |

An interesting observation posted in the Ratings thread... the share of the ABC1 audience which the Radio Times is presumably aimed at:
Channel 5: 3.72% BBC4: 1.20% Therefore ignoring all the other viewers which Radio Times is seemingly looking down on, Channel 5 is still at least 3 times as popular as BBC Four even amongst their reader base! It shows how ridiculous the changes are, and clearly driven by some BBC bias rather than what's best for their readers. |

What has Channel 5 done to upset Preston - he could have left well alone and added a new channel where 3 was namely Talking Pictures TV

I suppose the best thing about channel 5 moving is that the whole days schedule is now in one column unlike the other four main channels
