The ident will be shown from the 1st according to this tweet from the actor in it https://twitter.com/oakes_caroline/s...48577595736065

I suspect that there's more than one ident. The correct slogan is:

For The Moments we Share

and the cast list features:

Dad
Dad (yes, two actors playing two different dad's
Mum
Crying Man
Routemaster Bus Passenger
Woman in Kebab Shop

I have no idea how it all fits in together, but it does seem like it's going to be totally different this year.

Happy December

My time as hosting this year's thread is rapidly;y coming to an end. Tomorrow we should know the cover , therefore the result of the competition and who gets to start the 2017 thread. Also over the weekend many of you will get your hands on the Double issue and fly off to other forums and threads or into hibernation before coming back to the new thread sometime next year.

So I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed in some way to this thread this year - 150 pages over 3,700 posts and over 300,000 views. It shows that people do like talking about Christmas TV as we all have a view about it . When the first thread was set up nine years ago we were called geeks and to get a life etc but with those figures above I dont think we can be called anything but enthusiasts any more

it has been nice to get to know more of you during the year and its also nice to see the younger generation taking part - hope that continues

I feel as we have a community here where anyone is welcome . We have shared in each others success and shared in each others sadness - also nice to know that if your feeling down or need advice a quick PM to someone can help

A big thank you to Clares_dad and Wizzywick for their competitions and quizzes, helps to get us in the mood

For some of us Christmas is a hard time of year due to loneliness or it brings back memories of those no longer with us - but as my sister in law said last year after losing my brother - we will celebrate the way he always did - so the things he did on Christmas Day were still done

I hope the double issue doesnt disappoint and I look forward to doing this all again next year on the new thread

I for one can't wait!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all

Can I just say, I read this thread every single year but hardly ever post because I'm worried I don't have anything interesting enough or of any real contribution to make but these posts cheer me up no end .... nice to know there's so many people who love Christmas just as much as me. Big thank you to you all for always making me feel so festive & thank you for all your hard work too.
And also hello to all the fellow annual lurkers

What a genuinely sincere and kind post. I share your sentiments. This is a terrific thread and if the worst does happen, i.e the DS forums close (heaven forbid), then there must surely be away of resurrecting it elsewhere. Perhaps a contingency project for someone in the New Year - find a back up!

This is my escapism. I feel like all who contribute are joining in for the same reasons as I am - because it's something nice to do amidst all the hustle and insanity of reality.

I dare say we'll see an array of Christmas colour everywhere over the next week or so, and as a personal gift to you all, I want to share with you my poem that is published, that sums up the meaning of Christmas:

WHEN DECEMBER COMES

When December comes the world shines.
Smiles on faces are renewed and glow.
Emotions and joy that somehow entwines
Moments and magic with glistening snow.

Love is strong as the happiness around
Gathers hope into the coldest heart.
The air is filled with a silent sound
That crescendos when Christmas will start.

This is the end of another long year
The time when demons are cast to the night.
The days when sorrow is replaced by cheer
And darkness is brightened by light.

When the saviour’s birth is remembered once more
And the message of peace is rife,
Embrace to your heart the ones you adore,
Your husband, your children, your wife.

When December comes, the world will freeze
But will be warmed by the brightest of star.
An ancient story, carried on a magical breeze
From Bethlehem afar.

As Christmas departs and the calendar turns,
Your future will start to look clear.
The happy thoughts that your glad heart yearns
Wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Mirroring Marke09's initial message, happy December!

Hear hear.

It will be the second Christmas without my step-dad and his absence will be felt more than any other time of year.

Personally I have mixed feelings with Christmas tv because half of my family love it and half (including myself) hate it, so it's creates a bit of a divide in the house. It just means it's a pretty boring afternoon as some people are transfixed to the box and i end up just watching something on my phone with the headphones in. Something like Strictly or Bake off is ok because it's fairly light viewing and you can still get a conversation out of them; but as soon as the soaps come one that's it. I usually head home before Coronation Street starts up as there's no point me being there from that point.

Dissapointed to see BBC Two aren't showing Hi-De-Hi or Some Mothers Do Ave Em Christmas specials this year, luckily I have the DVDs.

p.s and lets be hopeful the radio times cover is more 1977 or 1981 than 2014
or even my guess for a traditional cover in this year's competition

Happy 1st December to you all

I always hang around this thread until the final day of the double issue, so will still here until 30 December.

I'll happily second, or is it third or fourth, the comments from markeo9.

As for the poster J-Star, don't worry about posting, everyone can make a contribution to this thread throughout the year. So keep posting.

By posting that you have contributed to the thread - so well done - be nice to hear what you and others think of the Christmas programmes AFTER Christmas - our first big debate on the 2017 thread
