I think they're doing it to avoid having the second week of the magazine being largely back to "ordinary" programming, whereas they have more Christmassy stuff in the 17th-23rd run-up week.

17-30 December is normal when Christmas Day falls on a Sunday

There hasn't been a double issue starting on 24th December since 1977, the 1988 issue had a "New Year Guide" in it but you have to remember there were far fewer channels then.

Also all the other TV Listings magazines are doing 17-30 December so it would be daft for RT to have differing dates.

And davads, that's exactly what RT told me when I asked why they now do 17-30 December - there are more Christmas programmes in the week up to Christmas than there is after New Year.

I know, I thought I'd read it on here somewhere But it does make sense when you think about it.

Nothing Digital yet, it is poor as surely when the magazine was completed, all im guessing they would have had to do was press a button

Speaking of other magazines' front covers, I think I've lost count of the number of years in a row that What's On TV has had "Together At Christmas" on top of a soap couple. It's the same this year:

Is there something about the magazine that I'm missing, and it's an appropriate headline, or is it just a complete lack of imagination?

Just had a look at back issues to 2013 and your right it says it every year above a soap couple who are together anyway

It's a magazine we used to buy regularly in our house and I remember it going further back than that - it's at least 10 years now. I think the little sub-titles are also the same. The only reason I can think of is that some people only buy a TV magazine at Christmas, so they're trying to retain a consistent "brand" to hook these each year. But it's quite a thin justification.

Sorry...I'm a long-time lurker of these threads, and it so happens my first post in one is to question a different magazine's cover spread!

Odd as normally on there the day it first gets released to the shops or I'm sure last year was the day before.

So did mine and I've finally had a reply about my 3-9 December issue, they've extended my subscription by 1 week.

All the Christmas TV guides are in a little newsagent/post office in Duns. That's the South East Scottish Borders for those of you who don't know.

Not only do they have the Scottish editions, they have the English editions too (which caused me much confusion at first - because the English ones are at the front of the shelf and the Scottish ones at the back)

Anyway - TV Times in hand. The yearly tradition has been completed for another year.

Hehe...SNAP!!....no sign of the Xmas one though (seem to remember the same thing happening last year too!), Think after 3 years of subscribing to it, if they can't treat loyal customers better than that, I will cancel my D/D in the New Year.

I agree as the new year editions are not out until nearly any earlier than a normal edition.

BBC1 in particular has half its big shows on New Years Day that end up getting excluded from the double issue

Where is RT actually printed these days, I would have thought that area would get them first. I know it used to be Park Royal in London and East Kilbride in Scotland but that was years ago now.

My 10-16 Dec issue finally arrived today as well – notice on the wrapper it's now being sent by Second Class post but still has printed in large type the line "TIME SENSITIVE PUBLICATION, PLEASE DELIVER URGENTLY". Well to deliver urgently revert to FIRST CLASS!!!!!!!! Come on, really?? That means issues that are published in a Bank Holiday week can now be expected to drop through the door on a Thursday or Friday ... time to cancel my subscription I think. Little chance of the 31 Dec-6 Jan issue arriving this side of Christmas ...

Your subscriber copy will arrive on or around Saturday 10th December – do not be concerned if you see the double issue in shops; your copy will be on its way.

Got my Christmas edition today (finally). You really have to go hunting for it in some shops. WHSmith and Sainsbury's didn't have it with the usual TV listings -- presumably because there are so many editions out now -- but they weren't even near the TV listings in the shops I went to...

They were either stuck near the ends of some checkouts or on a stand near one of the entrances that you could easily miss.
