Same of Bake off makes no sense why it is on Christmas day.”

Not sure I agree here. My niece and nephew are allowed to stay up a little bit later on Christmas Eve -- they have the usual Christmas Eve boxes with the Christmas pyjamas in, etc, that so many kids seem to have these days. It actually seems like a good bargaining tool -- i.e. "you can watch this and then you're off to bed". It's also repeated at 5:25pm on Christmas Day.

Bake Off being on Christmas Day is a no-brainer. It's been absolutely massive in recent years and I think it'll get an extra boost considering these Christmas episodes are the last-ever episodes on the BBC1. I also think it's a good time -- by 4:45pm most people are relaxing on the sofa and Bake Off is perfect light viewing in my opinion.

There's a reason why we get excited by the Coke ad every year. Why we listen to Wizzard, Wham and Mariah again and again and again. We all enjoy the ritual of the thing.

It's why the schedules look the same every year. Even the original programming is mostly new editions of old favourites. Doctor Who, Call the Midwife, Strictly Come Dancing – and outside of the BBC, the likes of Birds of a Feather on ITV, or Channel 4's Big Fat Quiz of the Year.

A big part of what we love about this year on year is the routine of it all: our own little Christmas traditions, whatever those might be, that we rehash every single year. The whole thing's about nostalgia and familiar treats. So we'll take our 10% of same old, same old and hold it tight, thanks very much.”

Totally agree with this.

I would actually prefer more repeats of classic Christmas specials at this time of year. I know BBC1 are showing an episode of The Royle Family in primetime and i'm sure they have more comedy classics through daytime and BBC2 but I love nostalgia at Christmas and will probably be watching a lot of GOLD on Christmas Day.

It gives me an idea that the TV magazines could do a section on comedy classics and list when a selection of when Only Fools, Morecambe and Wise, Two Ronnies, The Royle Family etc are all on over the festive period.

Today marks the 75th anniversary of the first showing of the Tom & Jerry cartoon "The Night Before Christmas " released on 6th December 1941 just one day before Pearl Harbour attack.
This was the 3rd T&J cartoon released and it has been entertaining young and old alike for over 5 Generations.
For those of us of a certain age this will always be associated with the Christmas Eve telly on BBC and can it still be seen on the Boomerang channel over the Christmas Period

Did see that over the weekend, it was being promoted in the Video section of Sky Q.
Been a long time since I saw that, but then not sure Ive watched much Tom and Jerry since I were a kid in the 60s.
They always seem timeless. The only time they show their age are when they enter the kitchen with the 1950s appliances.

If I remember in the 60s it was always on just after Grandstand on a Saturday and during the week it was after the early news. Just before we had our evening meal.
My Dad used to staple the football pools coupon to the Radio Times Saturday BBC page, I remember carefully tearing it off. Probably did that when was watching Tom and Jerry.

t was on in London after Grandstand when the regions opted-out to do their own sports bulletins.

Just have to agree to disagree then. Bake off would be better off on the days before Christmas though

In our County library Zinio, we have Whats on TV and TV and Satellite Week 17-30 Dec editions.
Not sure I have ever seen Inside Soap in there. We have All About Soap.
The only other Tv guide they have is the TV Times.
Real shame they do not offer the radio Times in our county library offering.
Pretty good though otherwise seeming as its free to use by just entering your county library card number.
Most other Monthly mags in there now have their Jan editions available.
The zinio app is simple and works so well on any device.

Finally got mine but I think ive got a woman in trouble in Sainsbury's - there were none on display but after going through the checkouts they were all there in trollies. I asked if i can buy one - it involved three members of staff plus the manger to get one! The lady who does the magazines ended her shift at 11 so the manger was not impressed that she had just dumped them there and gone!

I got my copy of the Christmas Total TV Guide on Saturday from my local Tesco. Was amazed to see it on sale and all laid out in it's own little area near the other magazines

I got my TV Times today and rather than stapled together, the pages are "bound" together in this sort of style

https://media.digitalprintingireland...d-books-7.jpeg

You might think thats a good thing as the pages will stay together longer.

But for me its lost its Christmas TV "magazine " type feel about it .

And it feels a bit on the thin side.

Just had an e-mail from RT Subscriptions saying that they have been sending out the Radio Times second class since June and the late deliveries can only be put down to the Christmas post and the early dispatch of the issues involved - but am to monitor the situation once January arrives
