As a regular for the last 3 or 4 years can I say (In star wars style) "I have a bad feeling about this thread"

I think the least the OP can do is edit his first post and cut and paste the above introduction to the thread from Marke09 into the top of the first post
You can only edit a post within the first half hour.

It was mentioned a few times on the 2015 thread, that a imposter could start a thread, if this years new one wasnt made straight away.

Maybe it was made out of spite

Maybe the op/thread starter didn't know about the prize.

I'm going to be really honest and say I dip in and out of the thread all year and I had no idea about the prize being a "thread starter".

Its well organised and well worded and with it being "goodwill to all men" time of the year why don't we all just plough on with this one ?

Lets give everybody the benefit of the doubt.

Your rather casual apology and attitude suggests to me that you knew exactly what you were doing, and the fact you took time to trek through the archives to find past threads also confirms to me that you are absolutely aware of the Countdown Thread and its annual events. Of course you will deny it, and I will of course drop the subject, but the fact you say "Oh well, might as well use this thread now I've created it" suggests you have little regard for long term regulars and contributors.

Still, it's Christmas, season of goodwill to all men, so we'll leave it there.
I'm with Wizzy on this one. If anyone was unsure about the protocol all they had to do was to post in the current thread something like:- Anyone any plans for a 2016 thread?
There's too much work gone in to this for it to done innocently and sadly I believe it was deliberately started in full knowledge of what should happen. I don't see any mileage (other than point scoring) in starting a second thread, in fact, any new visitors should get the message about how things happen reading the first couple of pages. I'm just going to treat it as my first unwanted christmas present.

Its just a thread at the end of the day guys no matter who starts it, it's what we contribute that's the important thing, does anybody really know the reason who is behind starting it apart from a handful of people, most contributors wouldn't care , is it a kudos thing?
I know. I mean, the people in these threads each year are a nice and generally civil bunch-a rarity on here-but I agree, it is a bit Stalinist for them to dictate who can and can't start threads on here. It is, perhaps, in danger of turning into another one of the forum's many cliques-that is, if it hasn't already.

Unfortunately this thread is stained with an "Us & Them" feeling between the newbs and the legendary forum members who have been a part of this thread for years. As far as taking sides go. I with the Legends.

I don't know why everyone thinks it's the end of the world for me starting this thread, it's just a thread and to be honest if you keep on arguing and ranting and going full Facebook mode this thread is more and more likely to get locked.

I understand now that winner of the comp (whatever that was) is the thread so I won't do this again ok.

The trouble is you are there just to create more drama otherwise if you attempt to boycott threads so I don't think that will be a great idea to do that.

Your rather casual apology and attitude suggests to me that you knew exactly what you were doing, and the fact you took time to trek through the archives to find past threads also confirms to me that you are absolutely aware of the Countdown Thread and its annual events. Please stop banging on about it, I do know these type of threads however I did not know the annual events going on. I did a Google search of the threads and found however I never looked inside them.

Indeed. But the crux of the matter is that it WAS started when it shouldn't have been, and I suspect strongly the person who started it knew that.
No I never knew that I shouldn't have started this thread when I posted it, never ever knew.

Yes, next year, as soon as the Winner is announced, the "winner" should start the next year's thread. As long as it exists it doesn't need to be used straight away, but the problem of someone mischievously starting the thread wouldn't arise. Also, it wouldn't be a bad idea to let the moderators know that the thread is started by tradition, by a competition winner that a poster takes a lot of time and trouble to organise.
I promise I will rember for next time, and actually I might has a go at most of the competitions during the time of this thread

Now can we please stop arguing and go back on-topic otherwise this thread will decently be locked.

Have asked RT if they can confirm dates for 2016 Christmas issue .

I'll let you know if I get a response but expect it will be 17-30 December.

True - but someone earlier in the thread was asking whether the dates had been confirmed

Agree. Thank you mods. Some may consider the reactions of some posters a bit OTT and that is their right. But think of it like a little club. There are regular, frequent contributors and they have been there since 2008. People would not usually venture into a club if they had no interest in it which is why the reaction was what it was. All newbies are welcome and the more who join in with our activities the better. But, that is the very last thing I will say on the matter. I promise.

Pembo, any news on your January Quiz yet?

That makes a change. Anyway, hope next year both the RT cover and programmes will be much better than this year. Feels such an anti-climax after 12 months of a build up just to be let down.

Do we know that for a fact? It might go Dec 24th-Jan 6th, I'm sure it has done in the past...
I hope that the double issue for 2016 will include listings for New Year's Eve and Day.
Anyway I'm glad that the controversy surrounding this thread has been sorted out.
I agree that whoever wins the guess the cover competition for 2016 should start the 2017 thread as soon as possible.

I wonder whether claires_dad will get a reply sooner rather than later regarding his programme listings dates for the 2016 issue. Past experience 99% suggests it will be 17th - 30th December.

As a side issue, where I work, we have all our Christmas 2015 issues still on sale. Plus we have an unopened bundle too that looks likely to be sent back. In my opinion, as much as the cover is fun and festive, it just doesn't look like a premium listings magazine when it's sat next to TVTimes, Total TV Guide or TV and Satellite Week. The covers on all three of those magazines are all much nicer. Plus, customers have said "What? Oh, I'll leave it then" when I tell them that it's £4.00. Could the 2015 issue be the lowest selling issue of all time? When will the figures be released?

How many copies are in a bundle? Is there a standard number, or do you just get however many you ask for?

Surprisingly, I don't have any idea as to how many are in a bundle but it looks as though it is about 30. We get ours sent automatically based on the previous years sales, but my boss generally puts all the papers and magazines out rather than the staff - simply because he lives above the shop so is always up at 4.00am.
