...But other posters, especially claires_dad, also makes a huge effort and devotes a lot of his time in the run up to the Christmas Radio Times being released, and of course his excellent webisite:
http://ukchristmastv.weebly.com/ is an invaluable source of information and enjoyment to us all. Then of course are the regular posters like marke09 who spends time trying to devise a "Guess the Christmas Ratings" competition that hopefully will take off this year. |

Didn't they charge an extra 60p in 2012? £2 instead of £1.40?

How long before it's £3 every week though due to price increases? I'll wager within two years.

Do you want to have a sneak peek at two of this year's quiz questions? Like last year, I will post two of the questions and you will get an extra week or two to find out the answer! Check back here tomorrow, 31st July, to find out more.

Really looking forward to the quiz but cannot believe how fast the year has flown by! Hoping to win this time but worried as I'm going away for two weeks and uncertain of internet access - how will the quiz be run?

Bye Week into the Quiz 1. On Sunday August 7th, I will post 10 questions. These questions will not form part of the quiz. 2. Posters will have 48 hours (until 9th August) to answer these questions. I will issue the answers on Wednesday August 10th and anyone who answers these questions will be notified by PM as to their score. 3. The scores will be known only to the participants and will not be made public. In other words, no other entrant will know whether points of any entrant were gained as part of a bye or as an actual entry for any week. It is fairer and less controversial this way. 4. During the actual 8 week run of the quiz, these scores can be used as a bye into one week, or used across two weeks if you are unable to participate. For example, if you scored 10 points, you can either use all 10 points to cover your week away for one week, or use 5 points one week and 5 points in another week. But, you must notify me by midnight on the Thursday of any particular week you wish to use your bye so that I can add your score to the running total. I would prefer to calculate a persons score during their bye week seperately from the participating posters. IMPORTANT: You can not enter in any week and use your bye week scores. If you want to use your bye week scores, then you can not enter the quiz for that week. Or, if you inform me that you want to use your bye week scores, but then enter after all, your bye week scores will be null and void and will no longer be available. It is strictly a matter of 'one or the other'. 5. The bye weeks are only available to those who participated in the "Bye Week" mini quiz on 7th August, but is available for anyone to enter. 6. If you enter and do not use the bye, the points gained in the "Bye Week" mini-quiz, will not be valid or relevant to your final score. 7. The person who has more points at the end of the 8 week quiz, whether or not a bye was used, is the winner. The maximum score is 86. Im sure wizzy will clarify it all |

Late last week it was suggested that a "bye week" could be implemented into the quiz, after all, an 8 week quiz is a firm commitment and if you miss a week there is a chance you might miss out on winning the prize. I put a suggestion out to incorporate a bye week system that enabled you to use points earned in a seperate quiz to carry across to the main quiz. I then asked for feedback.
A couple of you responded publicly on the forum and since Saturday I received 4 personal messages that urged me to keep things as they are. On reflection, I do keep the quiz open for a full 7 days each week and this year, aswell as the top prize, there are pretty good runners up prizes too, so I have decided that this year, there will be no change to the format operated last year. It will remain as 1 point for each correct answer. I'm sorry if I have caused disappointment and I hope this doesn't spoil anyone's enjoyment of entering the quiz, but thank you to everyone who came up with ideas and suggestions, and to those who gave me feedback. I will reveal more details tomorrow, but unfortunately, there'll be no bye week. |

Following marke09's post above, I thought I'd repost post number 544 that had a detailed reason as to why there will be no "Bye Week" into the quiz. My proposals in post 529 were just that, proposals. I have introduced a new prize tier instead. All participants need to do is aim to score 70 points or more. If they do, they'll be in with the chance of winning a prize.
I will reveal more details tomorrow, but sadly, No Bye Week. |

The Christmas RT Countdown Quiz 2016 Launch Details
In just three weeks time, on the 21st August, the Quiz will launch with the first batch of weekly questions. In weeks 1–4 there will be 10 questions to answer. Week 5 will be a “Big Week” where 16 questions will be put to your knowledge! Weeks 6-8 will revert back to the 10 questions. So, all in all, there will be 86 Questions to answer, and a top score of 86 to aim for. The prizes have already been confirmed and you can check them out here: http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...&postcount=578 http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...&postcount=626 What If You're on Holiday and Worried You'll Miss a Week? This year, because I recognise some posters are going on holiday but still want to take part, I am giving you the opportunity to answer the questions for the week you are away in advance. If you can PM me before Sunday August 7th the week that you will be away between Sunday August 21st and Sunday October 9th, I will post, via PM the Questions for that particular week to you on Sunday August 14th and you will have until midnight on Saturday August 20th to get your answers to me in the usual way, via PM. I will reveal your score along with everybody else's in the relevant week of the Quiz and I will inform you when that will be in your personal message. This makes it fair. Please keep the questions to yourself so as not to spoil it for anybody else. If you are away for two weeks, I can only supply questions in advance just for one week, so it's up to you to decide which week you would like questions for. So, to help you work out how many points you can earn, here's the dates of the quiz and the amount of points available: August 21st: 10 points August 28th: 10 points September 4th: 10 points September 11th: 10 Points September 18th: 16 points September 25th: 10 points October 2nd: 10 points October 9th: 10 points I can not accept requests for advance week participation after August 7th, so if you want to take part it is important you let me know when you'll be away by midnight of that date. Sneak Peek at Two Quiz Questions Next week, the 7th August, I will post 1 question as a teaser from any of the 8 weeks of questions. Please don't answer it either by PM or publicly. The following week (14th August), a second question will be posted. Then the Quiz starts the following week! The 2 teaser questions will appear as a taster to the types of questions you will be asked this year, and unlike last year, there will be no repeated questions from previous years, no themed weeks and no anagrams. So, don't forget to PM me you holiday dates if you want to take part whilst you're away, and in the meantime, the Quiz countdown starts right here! But, don't miss the first teaser question next Sunday, 7th August! |
