Now we're heading towards the Countdown proper, does this prove that the original OP was indeed mischief making? He hasn't been seen once on this thread since last December? And, whoever starts it next time, can we avoid creating an unnecessary poll?

It seems my dates were mixed up, and I won't be missing any weeks after all, hooray! Thanks for organising all of this wizzywick. I just cannot believe it's almost August!

Glad you can make all weeks, but with the device I've introduced this year, at least you would have been able to claw back some points! I too can not believe that tomorrow is August. Scary isn't it? Just 21 weeks until Christmas.

Week 5 will be a “Big Week” where 16 questions will be put to your knowledge! Weeks 6-8 will revert back to the 10 questions. What If You're on Holiday and Worried You'll Miss a Week?

This year, because I recognise some posters are going on holiday but still want to take part, I am giving you the opportunity to answer the questions for the week you are away in advance.

If you can PM me before Sunday August 7th the week that you will be away between Sunday August 21st and Sunday October 9th, I will post, via PM the Questions for that particular week to you on Sunday August 14th and you will have until midnight on Saturday August 20th to get your answers to me in the usual way, via PM. I will reveal your score along with everybody else's in the relevant week of the Quiz and I will inform you when that will be in your personal message. This makes it fair. Please keep the questions to yourself so as not to spoil it for anybody else.

If you are away for two weeks, I can only supply questions in advance just for one week, so it's up to you to decide which week you would like questions for.

So, to help you work out how many points you can earn, here's the dates of the quiz and the amount of points available:

August 21st: 10 points
August 28th: 10 points
September 4th: 10 points
September 11th: 10 Points
September 18th: 16 points
September 25th: 10 points
October 2nd: 10 points
October 9th: 10 points

I can not accept requests for advance week participation after August 7th, so if you want to take part it is important you let me know when you'll be away by midnight of that date.

Sneak Peek at Two Quiz Questions

Next week, the 7th August, I will post 1 question as a teaser from any of the 8 weeks of questions. Please don't answer it either by PM or publicly. The following week (14th August), a second question will be posted. Then the Quiz starts the following week! The 2 teaser questions will appear as a taster to the types of questions you will be asked this year, and unlike last year, there will be no repeated questions from previous years, no themed weeks and no anagrams.

So, don't forget to PM me you holiday dates if you want to take part whilst you're away, and in the meantime, the Quiz countdown starts right here! But, don't miss the first teaser question next Sunday, 7th August!”

Just reposting the launch details from the previous page incase anyone missed it.

Blimey! It's blinking scary isn't it? How time has flown since Easter! Already just four and a bit weeks until September. Intrigued by the All New and Improved statement regarding your competition! It is hard to improve on quality, and your competition is still the original and best high quality event in this thread! (Closely followed by my Quiz of course!)

The Bliss channel closed last November, so no Blissmass this year. They were always the first to start the Christmas songs. So this year probably not as early.

Haven't bought mine yet this week. I buy RT every week but I do object to paying extra for a crappy supplement of something I'm not remotely interested in (yes, newsflash, not everyone is!). If it's commercially viable they can sell it seperately or as an add on for all I care. Not the first time RT has increased the price for an insert or supplement for a "major event" that obviously everyone must be interested in.

My sub copy hasnt arrived but according to the Rio broadcasting thread the layout is the same as in 2012 except the red button numbers are not listed

Yes it is. It does list all the timings and sports that are available on Red Button though, and it proves that it is able to include daytime programmes in the same column as evening programmes without making it squashed. I paid the £3 because, unless there's a change of listings layout in the near future, it was a treat as I haven't bought the RT since Easter, and won't buy it again until Christmas.

My copy has now arrived - to be fair we get 8 pages more in the magazine than we did in 2012 and i suppose a £1 increase in four years is not really that much!

I don't mind paying £3 as I enjoy the Olympics anyway but I wonder if it was possible to do an Olympic edition with the supplement and then a standard edition at the normal price without. Surely this would get more copies sold rather than have people leave it on the shelf once they get to the till.
