While i give wizzywick my answers last week.

I also mentioned to wizzywick, that in the last week my uncle has been diagnosed with Terminal Brain Cancer.

Going to be a few hard months, but i know, by being a thread user, and with us all being a big family on here, joining in on here, will cheer me up as we get closer, to my hardest christmas yet

The Big Quizmas Challenge 2016: Week 2

If you need them, here are the rules:

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...&postcount=780

As mentioned a few posts ago, this week is a Prize Stage and a small prize will be won by someone who scores over 7 points and whose name is pulled out of a jar in a draw. The Questions are a bit harder this week, which is why I have created "Prize Stage" weeks.

Here we go:

The Questions:

1. In the 2006 Christmas Issue, there is an article entitled “Party Animals”. Which programme that aired during the New Year period is it referring to?

2. John Neville, with guest appearances from Robin Williams and Oliver Reed, featured in which movie premiere on Channel 4 during Christmas 1994?

3. “Black Canary” is the title of a festive special of which enigmatic crime drama?

4. In January this year we sadly lost Sir Terry Wogan to cancer. In 1987 he hosted a two part TV Tribute show about BBC Radio Comedy. What was it called?

5. What was the title of BBC2's Christmas Night movie in 1986?

6. Who read the story “The Mezzotint” on Christmas Night in 1986?

7. Robert Lindsay starred in BBC1's New Year's Eve play in 1984. What was it called?

8. James Caan starred in which violent film from Christmas 1983 about a game that was designed to release anti-social behaviour amongst its spectators?

9. An all star cast featured as children in which ITV festive drama from 1999?

10. In the 2012 edition, which “Secret Santa” said “Graham Norton is getting a new chair…….Jimmy Carr, an abacus!”

Good luck everyone, and answers as usual to me by 11.59pm on Saturday 3rd September. All answers to be sent via Personal Message.

Voted for the 90s in the poll but would have chosen the 80s if it was there.

Does anyone remember the name of a show that was on at or around Christmas, i can't remember which year but it showed a man who owned a turkey farm and followed his run up to Christmas dealing with his farm and Christmas shopping too?

No mistakes, but the exclusion of a crucial word!

In Question 5 of the quiz this week, I missed out the word "Premiere" from the question. It makes a lot of difference to the answer! So, here are this week's questions again, as if starting from fresh:

The Questions:

1. In the 2006 Christmas Issue, there is an article entitled “Party Animals”. Which programme that aired during the New Year period is it referring to?

2. John Neville, with guest appearances from Robin Williams and Oliver Reed, featured in which movie premiere on Channel 4 during Christmas 1994?

Welsh viewers - regarding question 2 - the film was not shown in Wales on S4C that week but it does feature with all three named actors in the TV film guide of RT that year

(Thanks to marke09 for the heads-up).

3. “Black Canary” is the title of a festive special of which enigmatic crime drama?

4. In January this year we sadly lost Sir Terry Wogan to cancer. In 1987 he hosted a two part TV Tribute show about BBC Radio Comedy. What was it called?

5. What was the title of BBC2's Christmas Night movie premiere in 1986?

Yes. The 80's Christmas's post 1983 were brilliant. Except BBC1's 1988 schedule. That was pretty dull. Silverado, the rather little known western, was their main event that night!

Very quiet day quiz-wise today. Just 1 entry for the whole day. Early doors I know, but don't forget, there is a prize this week! Just score 7 points or more and you'll be entered into a draw to win a Vinyl Christmas Radio Times Fridge Magnet! Fingers crossed it'll be livelier tomorrow.

You guys are a clever bunch! I thought you'd find this week's questions harder! How wrong I was. Just one little bit of clarification: in the "Robert Lindsay" question. The programme in question was the only show featuring Robert Lindsay that particular night, so whether it was a play or otherwise, the chances are the programme you have discovered, is probably the right answer!

Now for some exciting news!

This year, not already mentioned, I have added a new prize element to the Quiz. Aswell as the four prizes on offer at the end, there is also three "prize stages" during the Quiz's 8 week run.

Week 2 is the first prize stage. All entries who score 7 or more this week, will be put into a draw. A winner will be selected and that person will win a Vinyl Christmas Radio Times Fridge Magnet featuring three classic Christmas covers! This will be sent out to you following the reveal of next week's Scoreboard and the confirmation of the prize draw winner! Good luck!”

Very pleased to see I've done so well although I kind of knew my Frank Spencer answer was the wrong one but he is such a legendary sitcom character that it was worth a guess!
Thank you

It was an excellent score for a debut. Frank Spencer was actually an intelligent guess, it's the sort of thing he'd do.

Hope you'll have another go this week.

I'm gutted I put 1988 for Many Splintered Thing when I meant 1998.

That is a shame. But there is a long way to go, and I doubt all 25 entries will see it through to the end so it won't be until week 5 that we start seeing the potential winners. There's everything to play for!

Don't forget, if you score 7 or more this week, you will be entered into a prize draw to win a brand new Christmas Radio Times Fridge Magnet!

There will be two more fridge magnets up for grabs during the course of the Quiz, PLUS a poster of the 1973 Two Ronnies Christmas Radio Times Cover! Details will be posted during the relevant weeks.

Best things on Christmas Day 1988 were Only Fools and the Back To The Future premiere. Watched everything on BBC1 in the evening except Songs Of Praise and the dreadful Silverado. Only Fools started its rise from that Chrismas. Bread was the bigger sitcom going into the year but the Dates episode of Only Fools had everybody talking. Then it went into the first magnificent series of 50 minute episodes in 1989 and then The Jolly Boys Outing on Christmas Day.

Those were the days that when Christmas Day fell on a Sunday, Songs Of Praise would be on.

I remember watching BBC1 in 1989 non-stop! Only Fools and the brilliant Jolly Boys Outing, Russ Abbott, Crocodile Dundee, Miss Marple, In Sickness and in Health and Clockwise! Now that WAS a line up! And, they had a beautiful spinning top globe Christmas ident too.

1989 was the year Only Fools and Horses really broke through as the nation's favourite sitcom. It would have swept all the awards that year too had Blackadder Goes Forth not ended on that field of poppies. Nothing was going to beat that moment. The Only Fools Christmas specials regularly made the top 10 most watched programmes of the year and became the centrepiece of the schedule from 1989 too.

1989 was also the final year of mechanical BBC Christmas idents.

I noticed today, that, although I included claires_dad's website in the link for the rules to the Quiz, I didn't link it seperately after the questions, which is now customary with regards to the Quiz. For anyone trying to find answers for broadcast time questions and beyond, it is an invaluable source of information. For those that need a bit of help, here's the link to the website:

http://ukchristmastv.weebly.com/

Next week it will appear with the Questions as usual.

Here's your first reminder of the week to get your answers to me by 11.59pm on Saturday September 3rd. The bank holiday has caused a fair bit of quietness - only 6 responses so far, but ALL of them will be entered into the draw this week to win a brand new Christmas Radio Times Fridge Magnet! Good luck.
