Doing the semi-final, in my view, is fairer because all who want to win will take part. It also gives everyone an equal chance. It isn't any extra work because the tie-break questions are already devised, so doing a bit of additional scoring for a few minutes on a Thursday evening won't inconvenience me too much.

I will have a think and let you know by the end of the week. I am genuinely trying to make the end result as fair as possible and I wanted to avoid 9 people scrambvling around on a Sunday morning trying to post the quickest as it's a cruel way inwhich to lose. I also felt names being drawn from a hat is also slightly unfair as players who stuck with the Quiz throughout and scored top marks should have an equal chance to try and be the new champion on merit and not on the luck of the draw.

Please, though, keep your suggestions coming.”

How did you determine the winner last year ?

I like the B option, Wizzy. But if you weren't to change anything, then how about a "prediction" question to break a tie at the top, rather than drawing names from a hat (which I agree with you is a bit of a downer)? Have people guess how many pages are going to be in this year's RT double issue (seeing it's what we're all here for). Or what page number the first Saturday listings page will fall. The closest prediction either above or below is the winner.

It would mean we wouldn't know the outright winner until a month or so later when the magazine comes out, but would that necessarily matter that much?

You won outright. The runner up (there was just one and the prize was a copy of a non-Christmas RT), was decided by a tie break question. But, there were just two people involved in the tie break so it wasn't a big deal.

Or guess how many films are reviewed on the film pages could be another possibility...

It's not a bad idea davads. Trouble is, I like the Quiz all done and dusted, because afterwards claires_dad begins the cover competition for a month, and I wouldn't want the Quiz winner looming during the period where claires_dad is collating the responses for his competition. I think as a matter of courtesy, that it's only right that claires_dad's competition should be the only event and the only focus during the time it's running.

Thanks for your suggestion and support though, I do appreciate it. Next year, should the Quiz return, I will endeavour to include a satisfactory conclusion into the rules! I guess I genuinely expect nearly 30 people entering, which I am thrilled to bits about!

Semi-Final Confirmation

I have received some personal messages from posters supporting the idea of a Semi-Final. It is clear that a semi-final is the fairest way of establishing an overall winner.

Therefore, these are the details:

If there are more than 5 posters on equal leading points at the end of week 6, I will post, once week 7 questions have been posted, a second set of questions that will be for the semi-finalists only. The semi-final questions will consist of five based on a video clip, and 3 non-related. If players are within two points from the leaders, then they too can enter the semi-final.

All semi-finalists should post their week 7 questions in the usual way and within the 7 day window. The semi-final questions need to be sent to me by PM by Thursday October 6th at 11.59pm. I will of course let you know how you scored regarding the questions, but the points allocated to each semi-finalist in regards to how quickly they posted, won't be revealed until the final scoreboard is posted on Sunday 16th October.

Once the semi-final is complete and in the circumstances of semi-finalists getting an incorrect answer in weeks 7 or 8, then it simply affects the overall score once main quiz points and semi-final points are collated.

Hope this is easy to follow. At least this way, the winner will be the person who scored the most overall points in general.

All other players who are heading towards the 70+ Score in order to have a chance to win the prize draw should continue playing in the usual way. Once the calendar has been won, I also have two more fridge magnets to win, so three people could win something in the final draw!

So far, very few of you have given me your answers this week. Just to remind you that to qualify for the prize draw this week, you will need to have entered the Quiz every week, including this one.

Just three days left before the deadline closes.

OK Confirmation at last that the Christmas Double Issue will be on sale from December 3

This means if you want Radio Times to cover New Year too it will set you back £7.10! (£4.60 double issue and £2.50 for the New year issue (presuming the ormal 20p rise))

So if you want the 12 for £1 subs offer NOW is the time to do it!

Lol! It was the ratings thread that nurtured me and made me who I am. I could never turn my back on it! Besides, this thread has been too quiet the last couple of days and posters are sending their answers to another forum, 'cos they're certainly not sending them to me.

Hull is the 2017 Capital of Culture and today they announced that on New Years Eve they will have a fireworks party that will outshine London

Could the BBC do the unthinkable and broadcast that rather than the Thames?

BBC DG has said that Hull will be centre stage on the BBC next year

What I think she meant to say is that from today the nights will be longer than the days!

It's going to be so odd when they do the works to the Houses of Parliament and the Elizabeth Tower and Big Ben is silenced at New Year.

I think i read somewhere that Big Ben would be back in action for major state occasions such as Remembrance Sunday and New Years Eve and any other occasions where it would be needed
