Quiz Answers Reminder:
Don't forget to get your answers for week 6 to me by midnight this coming Saturday - 11.59pm to be precise. As we get towards the end of the Quiz this year, more players drop out but there will be 14 players who, at the end of week 5, had more than 50 Points. This is significant. The following bit of information is relevant to those 14 on 50 or more.
SEMI-FINAL INFORMATION:
Because of the closeness of the scoring, I have created the first ever semi-final. I invite the following players to take part:
Anyone who has scored 50 points or more as @ week 5.
The semi final consists of 8 questions. 5 will be based on a 14 minute videoclip. 3 will be tougher – they are based on an article in the Christmas Radio Times. But, which article and which edition of the Radio Times? The scoring for the semi-final works like this:
Questions and speed. You can score 8 points for the answers and up to 14 points (dependent on the number of people entering) according to how quickly you get your answers to me. For example, if you are the first to send me your semi-final answers, you get 14 points*, second, thirteen points and last 1 point. Add this to the score you got for your answers and it could make a big difference! So, up to 22 points can be added to your final score at the end of the quiz. I will let you know as normal via PM, how many points your answers scored you, but won't disclose the scores for the speed of your response until the last day, partly because I won't know what that score will be because it is likely I will not know the number of entries until the deadline passes, and partly because it adds greater suspense to the outcome. You will have from Sunday October 2nd until Thursday October 6th at 9pm to get your semi-final answers to me. The week 7 Questions should be sent in the normal way within the normal deadline.
Your semi-final points will initially be posted separately along with your main Quiz scores. At the very end, to avoid a tie-break, scores for the Quiz and semi-final will be added together. In the event of a tie-break, the player who scored more points overall in the main Quiz, will be the Quiz champion. If this is also tied, the player who posted their semi-final answers the quickest will be the winner. I should point out that should a player score the 86 points in the main Quiz and is the only one to do so, the semi-final scores shall not be used to determine the winner, but will be used to determine the second and third places.
This will likely decide the three winners rather than a tie-break. The prize draw will take place for the 70+ Draw after the revelation of the final scoreboard. There will also be a prize draw for the semi-finalists only which will take place before the 70+ Prize Draw.
Remember: The Semi-Final is open to everyone who scored 50 points or more as @ the end of week 5. You do not have to enter it, but it could significantly change your final score if you do.
Don't assume the current leaders will remain as such after the Semi-Final. Week 8, the last week, will be the Final. Where the last 10 points available could ultimately be the deciding factor. The semi-final was devised to create a game-changer. It could do exactly that!
*14 points is only available if all 14 posters enter the semi-final. If 9 people enter then the top mark will be 9. (17 points maximum).
