Quiz Answers Reminder:

Don't forget to get your answers for week 6 to me by midnight this coming Saturday - 11.59pm to be precise. As we get towards the end of the Quiz this year, more players drop out but there will be 14 players who, at the end of week 5, had more than 50 Points. This is significant. The following bit of information is relevant to those 14 on 50 or more.

SEMI-FINAL INFORMATION:

Because of the closeness of the scoring, I have created the first ever semi-final. I invite the following players to take part:

Anyone who has scored 50 points or more as @ week 5.

The semi final consists of 8 questions. 5 will be based on a 14 minute videoclip. 3 will be tougher – they are based on an article in the Christmas Radio Times. But, which article and which edition of the Radio Times? The scoring for the semi-final works like this:

Questions and speed. You can score 8 points for the answers and up to 14 points (dependent on the number of people entering) according to how quickly you get your answers to me. For example, if you are the first to send me your semi-final answers, you get 14 points*, second, thirteen points and last 1 point. Add this to the score you got for your answers and it could make a big difference! So, up to 22 points can be added to your final score at the end of the quiz. I will let you know as normal via PM, how many points your answers scored you, but won't disclose the scores for the speed of your response until the last day, partly because I won't know what that score will be because it is likely I will not know the number of entries until the deadline passes, and partly because it adds greater suspense to the outcome. You will have from Sunday October 2nd until Thursday October 6th at 9pm to get your semi-final answers to me. The week 7 Questions should be sent in the normal way within the normal deadline.

Your semi-final points will initially be posted separately along with your main Quiz scores. At the very end, to avoid a tie-break, scores for the Quiz and semi-final will be added together. In the event of a tie-break, the player who scored more points overall in the main Quiz, will be the Quiz champion. If this is also tied, the player who posted their semi-final answers the quickest will be the winner. I should point out that should a player score the 86 points in the main Quiz and is the only one to do so, the semi-final scores shall not be used to determine the winner, but will be used to determine the second and third places.

This will likely decide the three winners rather than a tie-break. The prize draw will take place for the 70+ Draw after the revelation of the final scoreboard. There will also be a prize draw for the semi-finalists only which will take place before the 70+ Prize Draw.

Remember: The Semi-Final is open to everyone who scored 50 points or more as @ the end of week 5. You do not have to enter it, but it could significantly change your final score if you do.

Don't assume the current leaders will remain as such after the Semi-Final. Week 8, the last week, will be the Final. Where the last 10 points available could ultimately be the deciding factor. The semi-final was devised to create a game-changer. It could do exactly that!

*14 points is only available if all 14 posters enter the semi-final. If 9 people enter then the top mark will be 9. (17 points maximum).

In the meantime, here are Week 6's Questions one more time:

Week 6:

1. Professor Amanda Vickery presented a fascinating insight into which British female romantic novelist at Christmas 2011?

2. The article “Highland Fling” in the 2008 issue, refers to what BBC1 big Christmas drama?

3. Which epic war film aired on Boxing Day afternoon on BBC1 in 1989?

4. Jenna Louise Coleman was a guest star in which Jane Austen inspired sequel during Christmas 2013?

5. What was the title of the last ever Only Fools and Horses Christmas Special?

6. What year did it air?

7. Who is the hero of My Hero, the 2000's sitcom?

8. Where did the Christmas Eve midnight mass service on BBC1 come from in 2001?

9. There was a documentary about a British animation company on Boxing Day afternoon on BBC1 in 2015. Which company was the documentary celebrating?

10. In the French and Saunders Christmas Puddings special from 2002, who were the comedy duo supposedly house sitting for?

Remember, deadline is 11.59pm this coming Saturday, 1st October.

That was really weird. It was a Friday and that evening me and Mrs Pedrok had went out for a meal. All wrapped up for a typical end of October Edinburgh night, and ended up walking around with our coats off.

You're not wrong there.
On another point, a couple years ago (mid October) I wandered in to the 'then operational' BHS and as I entered Gary Glitter's - Another Rock and Roll Christmas came on. I asked to speak to a manager who fortunately arrived mid-song. I asked if he thought it the choice of song appropriate? "Most stores play christmas songs at this time of year" came the reply, I suggested focusing on the singer not the genre - nothing. I then said it's Gary Glitter - confused look - I detailed 'Convicted Paedophile Gary Glitter' the penny finally dropped. So if you do wander into shop/store/bar and this is playing, please berate the inappropriate manager who’s overlooked it. What’s more it was a pile of shit anyway

I don't think I'll berate anyone for playing a song by anyone. I'm an adult and as such I can evaluate as to what I find appropriate and what isn't. If we banned everything because a few like to associate things with someone who did something awful then we'd be banning an awful lot of things.

I won't stop listening to Christmas Songs because a pervert sang it. I will regard the singer as a pervert though. I think we need to stop censoring things because we as an individual feel uncomfortable with it. Most people won't link anything with anyone unless of course it's visual and in your face.

On the Christmas Songs sung, by Rolf Harris and Gary Glitter.

How can you "enjoy" any of their work without gagging in disgust?

They are classics, there is no need in my eyes to eradicate there songs out of history.

But everybody has there own view

Regarding the Gary Glitter issue, when I was a kid all our Christmas tapes were copies (done by either my dad or my auntie) and they only wrote on the track names not the artists to save space. This means that for years I had no idea who sang Merry Xmas Everyone, I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday etc til I found out much later. Because of this I don't particularly associate the song with him it just reminds me of being a kid at Christmas. Now Lostprophets are a different story. I had to delete all their music from my computer after Ian Watkins was convicted as it made me very uncomfortable listening to it

On a lighter note...
True Movies has now become True Christmas channel.

Can't believe it's changed so early though. I thought last year was early when it changed on October 9th.
