Everyone who wants to enter the semi-final will need to send the semi-final questions in addition to week 7. The Quiz itself is worth 86 points, so there are still 20 points to win in the Quiz. The additional semi-final points are to hopefully decide the winners at the end of the Quiz and will be added to the main Quiz totals on October 16th.

So, yes, everyone should take part in week 7 and week 8 as usual. The semi-final is in addition to the week 7 Questions and is limited to those who are on a minimum of 60 points. All will be explained in the morning. If the prize was a pencil worth 25p I wouldn't bother with the semi-final, but it's worth about £40 when all prizes on offer are taken into consideration, so I think it only right that I avoid a mad rush of a tie break and try and devise a fairer way of finding the overall winner.

You seem determined to hold onto your crown! So, far, 13 people are eligible to enter the semi-final. If you get all 8 questions right and are first with your answers and all 13 people enter, you'll get an additional 21 points added to your score! But not until the 16th October. I might know who's won before that date of course, but I won't reveal anything until the very end. It's more exciting that way!

Round 6 Closed.

No further entries can be accepted. Straight to the answers this week:

Week 6:

1. Professor Amanda Vickery presented a fascinating insight into which British female romantic novelist at Christmas 2011?

Jane Austen.

2. The article “Highland Fling” in the 2008 issue, refers to what BBC1 big Christmas drama?

The Thirty Nine Steps.

3. Which epic war film aired on Boxing Day afternoon on BBC1 in 1989?

A Bridge Too Far.

4. Jenna Louise Coleman was a guest star in which Jane Austen inspired sequel during Christmas 2013?

Death Comes to Pemberley.

5. What was the title of the last ever Only Fools and Horses Christmas Special?

Sleepless in Peckham.

6. What year did it air?

2003.

7. Who is the hero of My Hero, the 2000's sitcom?

Thermoman (George Sunday).

8. Where did the Christmas Eve midnight mass service on BBC1 come from in 2001?

Westminster Cathedral.

9. There was a documentary about a British animation company on Boxing Day afternoon on BBC1 in 2015. Which company was the documentary celebrating?

Aardman.

10. In the French and Saunders Christmas Puddings special from 2002, who were the comedy duo supposedly house sitting for?

Richard and Judy.

Important Point About Question 10:

Everyone except three players put Richard and Judy as their answer. However, I do acknowledge that the Radio Times itself and the BBC Genome site and claires_dad's website (which collates information from the Radio Times) stated "Rock Star".

I couldn't refuse this as an answer as it wouldn't be fair, considering the information was conflicting. However, I am determined to act fairly and reasonably, and considering the majority did infact put Richard and Judy as their answer, I have decided, that whilst I gave the point to those who put "Rock Star", in the event of a tie-break at the end, the person who put Richard and Judy will supersede those who put Rock Star. I'm sorry if this comes across as harsh, but I had to take into account that we had 16 entries and thirteen of those entries put Richard and Judy.

The Scores:

vinnyvega 10 -38 (playing for fun)

Pembo2004 10– 52 (18)
jazzydrury3 10 – 52.5 (17.5)

More on the Semi-Final at around 1pm.

If we do the semifinal, Wizzy, do we have to send the "normal" Week 7 answers at the same time as the semi ones, in the same PM, or can they be at a later point? Sorry for all the questions!

You will have the usual timeframe inwhich to send your Week 7 Questions. By midnight next Saturday. The Semi-Final Questions have a shorter timeframe, by 9pm this coming Thursday. So, you can send them separately. It doesn't matter if I receive the week 7 questions afterwards, it all counts towards your overall final score.

QUIZMAS CHALLENGE SEMI-FINAL

Semi-Final Details

Because of the closeness of the scoring, I have created the first ever semi-final. I invite the following players to take part:

Hildaonpluto
theSweeney
brucie_bonus
RG101
pizzatheaction
mightybudgie
davads
JBO
marke09
pedrok
altally
smokeycat
Claires_dad
yorkieUK

The semi final consists of 8 questions. 5 will be based on a 14 minute videoclip. 3 will be tougher – they are based on an article in the Christmas Radio Times. But, which article and which edition of the Radio Times? The scoring for the semi-final works like this:

Questions and speed. You can score 8 points for the answers and up to 12 points (dependent on the number of people entering) according to how quickly you get your answers to me. So, up to 20 points can be added to your final score at the end of the quiz. I will let you know as normal via PM, how many points your answers scored you, but won't disclose the scores for the speed of your response until the last day, partly because I won't know what that score will be because it is likely I will not know the number of entries until the deadline passes, and partly because it adds greater suspense to the outcome. You will have from Sunday October 2nd until Thursday October 6th at 9pm to get your semi-final answers to me. The week 7 Questions should be sent in the normal way within the normal deadline.

Your semi-final points will initially be posted separately along with your main Quiz scores. At the very end, to avoid a tie-break, scores for the Quiz and semi-final will be added together. In the event of a tie-break, the player who scored more points overall in the main Quiz, will be the Quiz champion. If this is also tied, the player who posted their semi-final answers the quickest will be the winner. I should point out that should a player score the 86 points in the main Quiz and is the only one to do so, the semi-final scores shall not be used to determine the winner, but will be used to determine the second and third places.

This will likely decide the three winners rather than a tie-break. The prize draw will take place for the 70+ Draw after the revelation of the final scoreboard. There will also be a prize draw for the semi-finalists only which will take place before the 70+ Prize Draw.

Questions will be posted shortly. Good luck!

7. “I'm intimidated by Christmas. Like lots of women I worry I can't be perfect” was a quote from a different Radio Times Christmas Issue. Who said it?

I just realised that that you can actually get more points by being quick than actually answering the questions correctly.
Wizzywick, I was wondering if you could rethink the scoring, maybe two points for every question answered correct?

People spending hours looking through Radio Times to get the correct answers but slow to send could end up with just 8 points. Someone else could answer with deliberately wrong answers, send them to you within 30 seconds and get 13 points.
Making it a speed contest rather than a quizz.

Obviously it's up to you but what do you think?

Really don't like to nitpick at all your sterling work Wizzy but I was kind of thinking the same thing... Shouldn't the bonuses be linked to how many you actually get right?
