General consensus of opinion is if BBC have the rights to it then Frozen will indeed be the BBC Christmas Day afternoon film but there is a chance that Channel 4 have the rights in which case it may be Monsters University on BBC1.

It would be great if BBC1 broke the animation stronghold and showed "Maleficent" on Christmas afternoon.

Thanks to wizzywick for the time and effort in organising the quiz and congratulations to Claires_dad, a deserving winner.

Can I say how much I've enjoyed taking part in this years quiz, Sunday evening quickly became one of my favourite parts of the week.

A couple of thoughts on next years quiz (and I've already put the date in my calendar!) a way to avoid the extra work the semi-final entailed would be to mix the questions up a little - rather than have a weeks questions of the lookupable(!) type include one or two quote based ones, whether that be quotes from programmes or the RT and perhaps resurrect the anagrams either as a round or put a couple in each week.

Thanks for your ideas. As mentioned this morning, I will be sharing Quiz duties with marke09 next year, and he has already suggested that things get mixed up a bit, of course, we'll be passing emails with thoughts and ideas between now and next August.

Thanks for taking part in the quiz and sorry your Sunday evenings have been left with a bit of a void!

Does anyone know when sports personality is on this year?

Also a question almost as hard as guessing the radio times cover - who do you think will win it?

Personally I think some of the 'Olympic' vote will be split, (Farrah, Brownlee, Trott, Murray) but with Murray having secured his second Wimbledon as well as Olympic Gold I really can't see anyone else winning it

I also predict, in the light of all the recent monetary post-brexit doom and gloom, NO PRICE INCREASE THIS YEAR.

FANFARE PLEASE!

GUESS THE COVER OF THE CHRISTMAS RADIO TIMES 2016

The competition will open at 12.01am on Saturday October 29th
(No entries will be accepted before then)

The prize will be a 2017 calendar featuring past Radio Times Covers

This year everyone will be entitled to TWO entries!

Post your entries in this thread :

Your first entry should be your guess for a Traditional Christmas cover

(Please note entries that just say Santa Claus or Christmas Tree are not allowed, be as detailed as possible)

Your second entry should be your guess for a cover that may feature a Specific TV (or Radio) Programme or Programmes
(Again just the name of the programme is not acceptable please give more detail)

Please post your entry as follows :

A) Your guess for a traditional cover

B) Your guess for a specific programme(s) cover

The winner will be either whoever gets it right or whoever I deem to be the closest!

In the event of a tie, names will be put into a hat and a winner will be drawn from that.

The winner will be announced on this thread and they will also be notified by private message.

Competition closes at 11.59pm on Sunday November 20th.
(Or earlier if Radio Times reveal the cover before then!)

In the event of there being more than one cover and more than one person being right, those who are right will have their names put in a hat and a winner drawn at random

My decision will be final!

(i) The winner will be announced as soon as Radio Times officially confirm the cover.

During the wheelchair athletes entrance in the Team GB parade, they chose an unfortunate entrance song: Van Halen's "Jump".

Been so distraught at losing my quiz winners crown been unable to post - many congrats to the winner (demand a recount!) - if you thought this years quiz was hard you aint seen anything yet! There are some ideas for next years quiz going back and forth - all ideas will be considered

Also I am announcing today that the Christmas Day Ratings competition WILL take place this year and will be
*new and improved
*PRIZES to be won

Full details will be released after clares-dad Guess the cover comp has finished (dont want to overfill your brains) but a quick guide

When the Christmas Day schedules are announced officially I will list some programmes being shown on ITV and BBC One all you need to do is to put the programmes in order that you think will be the most watched on Christmas Day and also guess its overnight rating - points will be gained and lost depending on how far out you are

I tweeted saying I hope they had a statement from Head of Comedy as to why Porridge had been chosen over Goodnight Sweetheart (another viewer had said that in a poll 63% wanted GS and only some 16% for Porridge) Jeremy then said he could meet half way with a statement from a BBC spokesperson which basically said Tuff we chose Porridge and theres no room for more than two vintage comedies or there wont be room for new ones but nothing as to WHY that decision was made

That's one of my major gripes about POV they ask viewers to send in questions, then feature them on the show but don't answer them!

Here are the questions again for the quotes quiz :

THE FESTIVE FILM QUOTES QUIZ 2016

All you need to do is let me know which well known Christmas Films do these quotes come from!

1) They are Man's. This boy is Ignorance, this girl is Want. Beware them both, but most of all, beware this boy! (1951)

2) Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he? (1946)

3) My speech! Here's my Christmas speech. Ahem. "Thank you all, and Merry Christmas." (1992)

4) Damn. How can you give Kris Kringle a parking ticket on Christmas Eve? What's next, rabies shots for the Easter Bunny? (1990)

5) Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Oh, I'm sorry about the bike, and the coffee, and the bus, and... the bomb. (1996)

6) No, you are a hallucination brought on by alcohol... Russian vodka poisoned by Chernobyl! (1988)

7) It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes, or bags (2000)

8) Look, I am lactose intolerant! And I'm just about this close to taking all those presents back up the chimney (1994)

9) The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.(2003)

10) A sequel. That's it. We'll bring it out on March 25, and we'll call it... Christmas 2! (1985)

Answers by PM by 11.59pm Saturday 22nd October please

Why not see how many you can get without using google!

If your a Carry On fan your well catered for on Saturday with 4 films being shown - two on Channel 5 one on ITV3 (which clashes with one of the Channel 5 films) and another late night on ITV

Also what is 5Star up to showing The Wizard of Oz on Sunday? It/s not Christmas yet you know

How very dare they!!

The Wizard of Oz always reminds me of this synopsis :

Transported to a surreal landscape, a young girl kills the first person she meets and then teams up with three strangers to kill again.
