We never really watched it with him - we always record it now and just fast forward to the bits we want to see, we know it's a for a really good cause but we find the whole programme mostly boring.

I have always felt the same way, plus it's very late too.

It has become a famefest these days. The talentless promoting a new single that will be as memorable as a trip to the dentist. It certainly lost its essence several years ago.

This years Royal Variety Performance is being recorded three weeks later than last year on December 6th so it sounds as if may be a bit of a festive show

Problem is the Producers see how much money they raise and it seems to go up every year and think they are doing something the audience want by making it aimed more at the young ones

But lets hope with the end of Text Santa that ITV allow their stars to feature as they used to do

I think so! I love his shows, and I'm a big fan of year round-up shows in general - but the bleakness of world news these days must make it increasingly difficult to make those shows funny.

Don't go in the politics thread again Wizzy! That way madness lies!

On Jimmy Perry, he did get a In Memory of after Hi de Hi this afternoon.

I know it isn't Christmas related, but his passing has been mentioned.

You never saw a picture.

Just a black screen saying, In Memory of Jimmy Perry 1923 - 2016

I see that Channel 5 is jumping on the Peter Kay bandwagon with its own 90 minute programme about him on Sunday night - I like Peter Kay a lot but surely the same material we have seen in the BBC programmes will be popping up again

What would be nice is say on Bank Holiday Tuesday afternoon BBC Two shows Christmas specials of Dads Army, Hi-de HI and You rang My Lord (if they did do a Christmas special)

I certainly understand and recognise the benefits of taking a hiatus from the pressure cooker that is the DS politics forum!

It can become like a vortex if your not careful so breaks are recommended in my opinion to stop it becoming all consuming and detrimental to enjoying life!☺😉

Voted 90s, that's when I enjoyed it most. But then I was a small child in the 90s.

Thats you r New Year cover now about the Christmas one.....

I dont buy into this excuse the TV listings are giving about being unable to include New Year schedules in their double issues this year duer to the late acheduling - the schedules will be out early every week until Christmas from now on so im sure they could by delaying a few days

At least the BBC have given ITV a heads up when ITV can show Skyfall, yet again.....maybe for three weeks in a row this time.

It's so good that this thread becomes more popular with every passing year.
Now what those new members of this thread need to realise is that there are some topics which are discussed every year.
One of these is Laurel and Hardy which hasn't to the best of my knowledge been mentioned this year ( somebody will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong).
Another topic is why does BBC 1 have a 3 hour edition of the Breakfast programme on Christmas Day ?
Now anybody who wants to watch the Breakfast programme can watch it on the BBC News Channel.
It would I reckon be a good idea for BBC 1 to have short news updates on Christmas Day
morning and show some Laurel and Hardy films. Laughing Gravy would be a good film to
show on Christmas morning.

Keep an eye on Talking Pictures TV (Freeview 81) as they have been showing a few Laurel & Hardy films!

They've even been showing their very first film "Lucky Dog" - silent film made in 1917, next showing is on 16th November at 5.40am!
