Of course, not all Christian churches celebrate Christmas on the same date.

Of course, not all Christian churches celebrate Christmas on the same date.
The Christmas period largely remains the same, but Eastern Orthodox churches regard Epiphany (6th January) as the main Christmas Day whereas most regard 25th as Christmas Day. Another issue is when different cultures/countries actually observe Christmas with some countries celebrating on 24th December.

Regarding Easter, I wonder if we'll get a special Easter Cover on the RT this year.

Well finally after being on the table for two years BBC Films announce a new film about the last tour on 1953 of Laurel and Hardy

Steve Coogan will play Stan and John C Reilly will play Ollie

as i commented on there too - the BBc has always shown its most popular programmes on Christmas Day going back to the 1970's and surely would be a big gamble to put something original and new out on Christmas Day but having seen the viewing figures no matter what they do millions of us will now watch what we want WHEN we want to watch
But what do you replace them with?
The era of a big blockbuster film has gone as most ppl would have seen it
replace Midwife with something like Last Tango in Halifax?
replace Michael McIntyre with a Peter Kay variety show?

If the BBC have the rights to Frozen they would be mad not to show it next Christmas Day as adults could get the kids to watch it and leave them to enjoy peace for 90 minutes
Big Gamble indeed to put something original and new out on Christmas Day, who can forget the absolutely appalling (complete with racist undercurrent) Come Fly With Me in 2010. And before people rush to remind me about ‘Still Open All Hours’ it was hardly ‘new’ certainly not ‘original’ and smacked of desperation. It’s just too easy to churn out the dross that is Strictly, CTM, Macintired and as ever Eastenders. It’s shameful that these highly paid (by thee n me) execs cannot muster the wit, guile or imagination to give us a fresh Christmas night line up. Please forgive me for reminding everyone that the Soaps should be banned at Christmas. Who wants to sit down on Christmas night to hear story lines of Murder, Rape, Addiction, Betrayal et al?

Not me! I don't watch Eastenders but I do watch Corrie and it has a lot of humour. At Christmas they deliberately lightened the tone and even included songs. It really was Christmassy and I thoroughly enjoyed it. In 2005 they produced a panto and that was fun, so I would not entirely condemn all soaps.

I am what is known as an ‘early adopter’ of anything techy or gadgety. So, I’m rather shocked at myself for only discovering the iPhone/iPad Radio Times app two days ago! Also available on Android.

It’s really rather good. The app is free and you can subscribe to RT or buy individual issues. I have taken a free trial sub and bought the Christmas 2014 and 2015 issues. My paper subscription issue will arrive today, but it appeared in the app yesterday, so perhaps I will get this year’s Christmas edition a day early!

TV Times have a similar app that also seems to be very good.

It's been confirmed that the next Doctor Who to be shown will be Christmas 2016 with series 10 airing in 2017.

It will be Steven Mofatt's last season as show-runner, he will be replaced by Broadchurch creator.Chris Chibnall

That would be my best bet! In fact ... that's my entry for this year's competition! Am I the first? As so many people will probably make the same guess, how on earth will you decide the winner??

Very sad that we will not have a Doctor Who series this year, but good to know there will be a Christmas episode.

Not sorry that Steven Moffat is leaving, I don't doubt or impugn his talent but his work is far too 'clever clever' and convoluted for a simple boy like me! That applies to Sherlock and well as Doctor Who.

I may come up with a plan for this year's cover competition....

Something like everyone may have two guesses, one being a Dr Who cover guess (EG guess what kind of background behind the Doctor, whether the Tardis or Daleks will feature etc) and a second guess for something else!

I think Dr Who will be the pre Christmas issue like Sherlock was last year - depends of course if Dr Who starts the first Saturday in January then he will be the front cover for that issue

Rest assured, I won't be giving a monthly countdown, but that's a month since Christmas Eve. The last month has flown in.

As for the front cover, I'm not convinced it will be a Dr Who front cover.

Just a quick question, without looking, who remembers the front cover for Christmas 2015? I can't!!!! I'll need to go and look.

On the contrary pedrok, I think January has lasted an eternity and it seems as if there's been months since Christmas.

I took some leave last week from work. Two reasons, my youngest daughter had her birthday last week, the second is that it helps break up January, the most miserable month of the year. I think that leave helps the month go quicker.

I find this quite cheering during the January, the worst month of the year:

http://www.timeanddate.com/sun/uk/london

You can set it for your location. I haven't found January too slow this year, and we are a month away from last Christmas today, which means a month nearer Christmas 2016!
