Well that’s a month since Christmas gone already

The months seem to pass faster and faster every year, next thing we know it’ll be summer with the delights of the Euros and the Olympics to look forward to.

Then we’ll be into September and off and running into yet another Christmas countdown

Time really does fly by

I find this quite cheering during the January, the worst month of the year:

http://www.timeanddate.com/sun/uk/london

You can set it for your location.
Bournemouth gets an extra 6 minutes of daylight compared to London today.

I'll have to move to the coast. Unless you'll split the difference and give us 3 minutes!

A good offer from RT this week - a FREE Dad's Army book worth £8.99 BUT you can only order it by posting the coupon and a £2 postal order or cheque to cover P & P - who on earth uses them in 2016?

I've still got a cheque book. (Only use it about once a year, mind.)

I use it for paying things relating to a membership of amdram company, so to be honest there's probably a few who similarly use them for clubs and societies etc... And you did ask

(And if it's like the DVD offer a few weeks ago there's probably a website with a card option too.)

Just out of interest I contacted the BBC to say that the BBC1 Christmas Day schedules were now becoming predictable.

I wasn't expecting a reply but received one by e-mail today!

Thank you for contacting us about our Christmas schedules.

We understand you felt the 2015 Christmas schedule was predictable and similar to previous years.

It’s always difficult to find the right balance in programming at any time of year but even more so at Christmas.

In our Christmas programming this year we offered Sherlock, Mrs Brown’s Boys, The Detectorists and Doctor Who Christmas specials and new drama Dickensian, And Then There Were None and Luther.

We also broadcast The Great Barrier Reef with Sir David Attenborough, Christmas University Challenge, Gypsy and the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures.

While we realise not everyone will enjoy all that we have to offer, we hope this at least demonstrates some of our efforts to ensure a balance and that there will be something for everyone at some stage of the festive period.

We thank you for your valuable feedback which helps us to get a snapshot of our audiences’ tastes and preferences and will help us shape decisions on future programming.

Once again, thank you for contacting us.

Kind regards

Nicola Egerton

I understand the reply but I was only referring to the BBC1 Christmas Day schedule!

Yes, they totally ignored your point. And the likes of Sherlock, I would suggest, cannot be considered Christmas programming as it was broadcast on New Years day.

Well, that's January all but over. And it's been a hellish month.

It is usually a rotten month, but this year, with the deaths of a number of well loved entertainers and some atrocious storms, it has been particularly awful. For some reason Terry Wogan was a broadcaster I particularly associated with Christmas. Don't know why.

But in a couple of hours January 2016 will be gone. February arrives and the year moves on. Let's hope it's a better month.

Wow!

Can you believe it's almost 4 months since my quiz ended? And there's just over 6 months until this year's begins?

It might seem ages away but as Easter is next month, and then April will lead to a Bank Holiday and Eurovision, another bank holiday and then summer, it will be here really quickly!

I can promise a fabulous prize and a decent runner up prize too, which I can reveal today. The runner up prize is a poster wall calendar featuring 3 classic Radio Times Covers for 2017.

You'll have to wait until July to find out what the winner will get this year.

Don't forget, especially if you're new to the thread, the Quiz begins on Sunday August 21st! Don't worry though, I'm bound to remind you all again before that!

Wizz, I can promise you that all the dates - together with the quarter, half and three quarter markers - are firmly in my electronic calendars and have been for quite a long time! The speed with which the time flies by is almost frightening. But I’m not complaining about that!
