1983, 1988*, 1994, 2005, 2011

So it's not a new thing not to cover New Year in the double issue!

(Although I believe the 1988 issue had some details of New Year but not full listings)”

ive got a 1982 or 83 TV times which goes from 24 Dec - 6 Jan .

So Christmas Kitchen will finish on 16th December - wonder what we'll get from 19th - Bargain Hunt?

The latter, simply because it covers New Year too.

I think it will be later than that regarding the sadness of the film, kids may think it's jolly film if it's on at ''teatime'',

the reason there will be no New Year coverage in the listings mags this year is because the New year schedules being a new week wont be finalised before going to print - now as ive said before do WE really need to know and have these mags two weeks before they start - I would wait a week or two again if it included New Year listings and it is not beyond the schedulers to get them finalised early

What is going to happen now is that the newspapers will carry New Year listings before the mags are out (i bet Mail On Sunday on 18 Dec will cover Dec 18 - Jan 2 or even beyond)

Be difficult to sell 2 million copies of a magazine in less than two weeks!

Must be a different year then - there's definitely one year when the RT was different to the TV Times

But in the days of 4 channels , in the 17-30 Dec issued they would print New Year Weekend At - a glance at the back

Listings for this issue are done as soon as the channels announce whats on (some satellite channels have already released their schedules). With technology now they are able then to just copy and paste the listings into the right slots when finalised (usually there are not many changes in the draft to the final) and off to the printers - which takes 5 days to print all 2 million copies in six different regional issues - this is why some get them early.

The TV listing mags will have a good idea as to what is on so they get invited to preview tapes and get interviews and photos with stars of shows

Last year I asked why we in Wales were always the last to get them and one reason they gave was that S4C are late in finalising their schedules”

Thanks ever so much for that.

When did the cover start being revealed last year? As I recall, it was square by square.

Something from that:

Quote:
“Copies will start to arrive in store from Saturday 3rd December.”

Unless you're the newsagent in Peterborough where, last year, I was able to get my magazine of choice - Total TV Guide - the day before it officially went on sale.

I find different stores do different things, some seem to keep the early releases in the storeroom and sell the previous weeks ones, some stores dump things on the floor as soon as they get it.

I recall one year, my main Sainsbury's didn't have the RT on release day but it's petrol station outside had it out.

Often down to one person who has all the newspapers and magazines to put out, and leaves the Christmas editions on their trolley not kneeing it should be out.

Yes heard them all. Then suddenly the store manager sees it's on sale everywhere else and he will be left with a heck of a load out of date paper in a week or so.

I do think RT ties to confuse people often a Christmas style cover on the prior weeks issue, that people pick up who do not look st the dates thinking it's the double issue.

The temporary Christmas box style holders work well in shops they are for the Christmas ones only.

They make space for Halloween and booze for sports events a magazine isn't too big.

It's often a low paid temporary shop worker who is told to get the papers out and gasnt read the on sale dates.

The tabloids stopped doing their TBA listings a couple of years ago now I believe and yes
it's 3 weeks today for the Double Issue but 2 weeks today when the normal RT is issued on a Saturday rather than it normal Tuesday.
