My sister knocked her TV remote last night and she has no idea what that did but all that she can get on her TV screen now is 'programmes are not stored'

Is there anyway of fixing this, please, that won't cost any money?

We're completely baffled as to what she did and why this has happened.

Does the TV have both analogue and digital tuners?

Could it be that there is a button on the remote to toggle between the two and that has been pressed and the TV is now on the analogue tuner? Since there are no analogue broadcasts any more it is fairly obvious that there will be nothing stored.

Have a look on the remote for a button labelled DTV or something like that.

Alternatively if she is using a set-top box (Sky?) the button to press on the TV remote might be labelled [input].

It might need to be pressed a few times before it's on the input that the set-top box is connected to.

It does have both. We've pressed everything on the remote and it makes no difference, it keeps going back to a black screen with 'programmes not stored' written in the top left hand corner.

I've just pressed the 'digital/analogue' button on the remote and that message comes on the screen.

It's a Tivo box. And every button has been pressed a few times.

OK so you are not using the TV's tuners then? That would explain the message.

What you need to do is look for the button on the remote labelled INPUT or with an icon of a square with an arrow over one edge pointing into the square.

This will either bring up a list of input options or toggle through the inputs with each press of the button. I suspect it will show a list.

You then have to select whatever input the TiVo box is connected to. Or just try them all in turn.

Oh, Thank You, Thank You! It worked!

We did actually bring up that list - it had AV and HD things on it - but we only pressed the AV and first 2 HD buttons. Never occurred to us it would be the HD13 button that would work!

Thank you so much. In future the remote will be kept well away from danger of baffling knocks!
