Ladders had an amazing reception on her album sampler on YouTube.

I think its got great crossover potential too, for both old fans and new. I think ALS would have alienated her older fan base, who invested in Leona back in the Spirit days. If I wasn't into Leona enough to research her (i.e. a casual listener, much like I am with Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons - I want them to come to me, rather than me go to them), then hearing FUMF, and ALS would have put me off from the album.

Ladders however would have made me interested enough to do a quick iTunes sampler to see what has been put out.

Songs that build up to a climax and take you on a journey, like "Stay".”

Yes! I was hoping this when she tweeted how she was loving Taylor's Blank Space.

I've not really heard a song like it on the radio. But it works, and with crossover appeal for both the single market, and album.

Didn't know it was offered to her.

Actually, since the whole point of Leona's new album promotion was that it was her own music, it wouldn't have made much sense to accept a fee for doing a cover, saluting other people.

I need Leona to cover Taylor Swift's "Out Of The Woods". I can imagine Leona sounding so amazing on it. Definitely the type of radio-friendly ballads I want from Leona.

Happy New Year everyone.

For those of us who have been with Leona throughout her journey it is difficult to realise that she is now a 30 year old woman and is no longer the latest young singer dreaming of being a star. Will she ever set the charts alight once more as she did with BL? IMO it is very unlikely - but who knows, she could be lucky. However, it would have to be an amazing record to persuade radio to play it sufficiently.

Perhaps we should accept that Leona will continue to make the records that keep her happy, and will not pander to those of her fans who are here for chart success. I will continue to play her back catalogue (especially Stay and HEYA) but unless she has a change of heart and goes back to the big songs I love it may be that I will not continue with her on her journey.

If Fumf sounded dated, Thunder sounded ancient
I dont think Ladders or ALS would do wonders, this album was doomed single-wise from the beginning. I think Leona was focused on making a cohesive album that would express her emotions and the result was a corpus that had good songs on it but no songs that would stand out in the current music world
Maybe on the next album it will be better if she will try to find 2-3 hit songs from decent songwriters and then build the album around them

Good to see the comments are positive because I genuinely don't understand this rubbish.

Lol I randomly stumbled across this before. A lot of the comments are positive towards Leona and basically ripping the PC brigade which is good.

"Thunder" wasn't that great either, but I think was more single-ready than "Fire Under My Feet" although not by much.

Whilst I don't think "Another Love Song" would have done wonders, if it was the lead single I could definitely see it doing well/Capital fm playlisting it. You only had to see the reaction the song got by non-fans and fans alike when it originally premiered and Leona's live performance at G-A-Y came across really well. Not to mention Radio 1Xtra gave the song a spin. It could've done a lot more than "Fire Under My Feet" did for sure.
