fine it may have just been a bad microphone or a bad feed but it did not sound good to my ears coupled with the commnts on the youtube feed. it w'asn't good

I felt bad for leona, especially after the stunning performance of time after time

I dont get how a follower of Leona's career and her performances can be satisfied with a performance like this one and can't take negative comments
Negativism is the tendency to judge unfavorably everything ( even great performances )
When a performance isn't good though and you say it, its just honesty

Oh the TV feed was SO MUCH BETTER. They must have had the wrong sound mix on live stream, and it sounded pretty distorted.

I haven't been here since Christmas time and come back today to all this negativity. Leona's voice wasn't the problem, the equipment/sound was clearly a mess. Some people clearly forgot how stunning she sounded on BBC R2 just a few days ago and are only too happy to complain about today.

But that's just it though. When people find a performance by Leona good, they say it. Everyone here seemed to love her R2 performance. Her Time After Time is sensational! I've had it on repeat since. So, at the same time, when we hear her isolated mic feed on a live stream to hundreds of thousands of people and it sounds as bad as that did with those strained belts at the end, we can say that's bad. That's not us being negative. It's us giving opinions.

I said she was fantastic on X Factor - most of you hated it. See what I mean? That doesn't make me think everyone was just being negative for the sake of it. I just thought "Oh, well clearly I heard something different" and moved on.

Ok, so I've been accused of being negative before, but I've just read all the comments on here and then watched this performance, and apart from not being the biggest fan of FUMF, I thought it was a good performance! Am I missing something? Lol

This performance is not comfortable to watch. I don't think it was uniquelly worse than any other FUMF performance. I just think that Leona's tessitura has changed dramatically and she needs to maybe learn to sing within a more limited and comfortable range. The vocals never appear effortless anymore. It gets really tough when the song demands a register switch, that's where voice seems weak. That being said. This has all been said before. I don't think we will see the day where Leona is considered a big artist again unfortunately. I just hope she chases moderate success on the next album with something a little more out of the box than I Am offered (though much of I Am was good).

The stream most watched had her live mic feed as the audio, so all imperfections weren't hidden by backing vocalists and instruments, so it sounded bad.

There's far too much negativity lately and it's really grating because it seems that in every performance people are just looking for negative things to comment on. Was it vocally perfect? no. Was it bad in any way? Absolutely not.

But the focus on the, often small flaws in performances is greater than the time spent on praise for the great ones eg. TAT or Gurl Crush. It gets very wearing.

i loved the R2 performances on friday, and have had Time after Time on repeat

I watche tonights performance on the live stream on youtube, and it didn't sound good at all, it sounded distorted and while i accept this could have been down to the mic setup on the feed, it tarnished the performance

its not going to help Leona if her promo is messed up

It is so painful to post in here lately, my day was made because I heard TAT on Radio 2 today. I can quote a lot of brilliant performances over the last couple of months, so the positives far outweigh the negatives.

This thread seems very bipolar at times, it is either on a high because of a stunning performance or down in the dumps, I find it very depressing.

The mic feed was isolated, which meant it was stripped out of the track and filtered, making it sound overly harsh. If she stood there and sung acapella, it would sound nothing like what we heard.

If a performance is say 90% good, the talk is always weighted towards the 10% which is less perfect. There is no real discussion of the reason why the good/very good/excellent bits work.

And very little about the emotions conveyed.

Her voice is fine as good as ever . You lot all said this before the GH tour and then when you all went to see her you said how good she was. It's a lot to do with mic sometimes and these songs like thunder and fire are too screechy anyway. Get back to music like the stuff on the EP that gives her voice justice

Look we all just need to hang on until the tour, Leona is going to absolutely crush it and shut all of us up who have been negative about her voice.

No one means it in a bad way, we're just worried and because nothing else is happening it's so easy to focus on the little flaws, whereas in the good old days things were so fast paced that the conversations moved on quicker.

if the thread is best served by being 100% postive and gushing about everything, then i can go along with that.

My ears were bleeding..... That was just terrible. But it's definitely also due to the mic. At the end the backing vocalists sounds terrible and shaky so I have no idea who did the sound check but if I was Leona I would sue them.
To be honest she didn't sound good at the first place but the whole sound check mess made it 100times worse.

One huge mess let's forget it as soon as possible and release that cover Leona so we could trust in your abilities again lol.

I agree at times I think this thread should be re named the Leona Lewis critique thread
the poor lass gets more in depth analysis than a prisoner trying to get off a murder charge on a plea of insanity
even if Leona did produce a s**t note now and then and even if she did have a bad session Leona would still blow most other performers out of the water when they were having the benefit of every technological performance enhancing equipment known to mankind not to mention organic assistance
maybe as an appreciation thread we should occupy ourselves more singing her praises for the more prolific good notes she produces ?

Actually, they really didn't.

Minute flaws were always over analysed.

And, actually, she performs a greater variety of songs now than she did when BL was out. I don't know how many performances of that were analysed to death.
