It proves how different UK Radio was different back then because Broken Land was the most played song on UK Radio in that year. Despite Broken Land only reaching no.20 and 1988 being the year that SAW dominated the charts.

yeah well i dispute that , in the same way 'cowell dominates the charts' now. it appears that way because of their very distinct, sameish sound. but factually they only had 3 tracks in the top 20 at any one time (and it might be top 40 - i cant remember). what they did have though is a track in the top ten nearly all year, and as they all sounded alike it gives the illusion that they dominated.

as you can see here, it was almost all down to kylie - without her SAW would barely feature

http://www.uk-charts.top-source.info/top-100-1988.shtml
interestingly 'broken land' despite its popularity on the radio doesnt feature

if you compare SAW to merseybeat

http://www.uk-charts.top-source.info/top-100-1963.shtml

youll see that in 63, merseybeat really did dominate the charts as it was the biggest grossing/most popular style.

this highlights why i dont accept SAW was dominant, because in comparison to other pop music styles - it didnt.

The guy who used to live myself me claimed to have played keyboards on that and looking at the video the keyboard player doesn't seem to be shown properly, so maybe he did? He wasn't a member of the band as far as I know. He does clubs in Spain now.
