It really feels like RTD is just playing with us. putting all this bad wolf stuff in as a way of leadin us up several garden paths.

I wasn't comparing Dr Who to Shakespeare, I was comparing this weeks Dr Who forum interest to last week's.

I was disappointed that there weren't any references to the Time War or Bad Wolf, but I did enjoy it.

The humour was excellent, lots of tongue in cheek.

I think I may just tune in for next week's episode.

I think that the episodes it the future, or about things that have not happened yet, or are unlikely to happen for a long time - like todays episode - are always going to appear worse, or less believeable. Where as the unquiet dead episode was set it the past and they were easliy able to clear everything up. I thought tonights episode was great, if not a little bit predictable

I know we disagree on a lot, but I have to be honest here, and can't pretend I liked it more than I did.
It's not necessary to defend a show for fear that you might do it harm by criticising it.

On the contrary, you must criticise it if you think it's rubbish, because if you don't we'd send out the signals that it was really good and we are happy with the kiddy tone.

It probably deserves to be trounced in the ratings if it is bad. So that the flaws can be identified and dealt with. Then the show can get feedback to use in order to make it better in the future.

There's just been a very creepy trailer for 'Dalek' on BBC1!
Starting early!

Doctor enters a dark room & says he's here to help...
As the lights come on the Dalek says 'THE Doctor???!!!!'

BBC 1 just showed the trailer for next weeks Dalek Ep... different to the "next Week" bit at the end of this week's show... looked much darker.

As for this weeks, i was a little disappointed, didn't think the aliens worked as well in the rubber suits then the cgi, when they ran in CGI it was really fast and slick, but not so with the suits... sorry bit over critical... still series as a whole - "Fantastic"!

Am I right in thinking that a Time Lord has 13 lives (mentioned on a classic ep on UK Gold the other day). If so then we will definately be seeing the end soon. Maybe they find a way of living longer (more money and better contract and stories from the Beeb) or, heres one to consider:- travel back to a point before his home world got destroyed....

That comment was related to the comparison between the forum interest of both episodes.

My apologies if you didn't understand that. What I should have said was:
"That's how good this week's episode was compared to last weeks"

Totally agree with the Daleks statement. Was a very cool moment.

Hairs on the back of your neck and all that.

Maybe a little. But bear in mind that soldiers sent to guard Downing street would be quite experienced and not entirely stupid. Being told to shoot someone who was not an immediate threat might have made them think for a bit. The fact that the person giving the order was more flustered than the person they were meant to shoot may also have confused them.

Great episode. Loved it all.

I disagree with many of the comments raised regarding Keith Boak. I think his style is just perfect for the material he is given. Doctor Who is fun again and the combination of RTD and KB have been just great. Rose and Aliens of London/World War III have demonstrated some superb character interaction and taught direction building up the tension nicely.

Yes, the whole thing has a slightly silly feel to it but I think it works a treat.

Thanks BBC for giving me back Saturday nights of the past!

The time war has created two Doctors which is why this one is off-balance. He's the created alternative from the war itself which was started by Galafrey's betrayal from the Master. That's my pitch and I'll see how it goes. As for the episode tonight, it was ok but not great.

This is my first 'Who' post - I'm fairly new here but I confess I've been lurking about just reading and enjoying all the posts for a couple of weeks! Thought it was time to nail my colours to the mast. As a wee lass who grew up with Pertwee and Baker I thought no-one would better them but even at the ripe old age of 40 (ish) and spoiled by watching far too much Buffy, Firefly and other US stuff I confess I'm so proud of Auntie Beeb's SFX!! I'm just hooked on the new Who and I thought the Iraq analogies tonight were so funny - the writing is very clever. I think CE is doing fine (though maybe because I'm steeling myself for him leaving I am starting to think he could get a bit samey/irritating). Billie is great. But icing on the cake tonight though was the trailer.....'exterminate'! Roll on next Saturday!

Personally, I think that's the last thing ANY show needs - film making by public vote! If we had that, every show would be a reality-based celebrity extravaganza - ahh, hang on, it IS

Couple of things - yes, today's Ep. wasn't the strongest. I liked it, my flatmate thought it was terrible. He thinks the whole series is crap and I'm just trying to convince myself he's wrong. We shall see.

The kid wiping off 'Bad Wolf' was interesting - but not as interesting as the quote on Clive's website:

So, maybe that is this weeks 'Bad Wolf' reference, although it is obviously much more obscure. I don't think this is the last we'll hear of it...

Finally, How adult oriented was the original 'Who'? Not very. Most adults thought it was pretty lame back then. We have become our parents

Oh, and 'Buffy' was written for teenagers, whereas 'Who' is for kids and nostalgic 30-somethings.

I think the people complaining that it was too childish this week are forgetting that we had quite a bit of character development and a bit of political satire too.

Dr Who has always varied the tone with some writers going for darker material than others. It is all part of the mix. I draw the line at Bertie Basset but this was well within acceptable bounds.

I'm sorry to say I was disappointed this week. The earlier half was VERY kids tv. Lots of running round and fart jokes, and also hacking into the UNIT on a home PC - whatever.
Rose's mum and her acting ability also adds to the kids tv thing - bad kids tv.

That said - Ecclestone and Piper still a great duo, its such a shame the Beeb ballsed it all by falsely saying he'd quit, when he had said in interviews he might be prepared to do another series. Good one liners again.

Next weeks looks great.

I disagree with Alrightmate- I thought last week's episode was lame (too childish, lacking in wit and pace), but that tonight's was excellent.

A triumph for me- tense, funny, ridiculous, poignant- all conducted at a rip-roaring pace with a heavy dose of irony on the subject matter.

Rescues the two-parter....if the audience figures are low (I doubt it'll lose to Celebrity Wrestling) it's a reflection of people being put off by last week's dose, not by the quality of tonight's episode....I would rate this episode third best after "The Unquiet Dead" and "Rose".

Still- I must admit I'm looking forward to next week's episode- the press reviews suggest that we see a whole new side of Doctor Who, and it's not written by RTD.

I find it sad that TV has become so segmented that when people are faced with a programme which appeals across age and gender groups, rather than embrace it as a show with universal appeal, they get confused and ask "who is this aimed at?".

Somebody tell me why The Doctor's memory is a bit vague regarding that Lady Prime Minister - who runs for three terms - but he could narrow down the list of potential planets from 5000 to one AND know the aliens unique vulnerability!

I seem to recall The Doctor having memory problems in the past - as I am having now!

AND how did he not know that Aliens would crash land and that No. 10 would be destroyed if he clearly has some memory of this time?

Hmmm?
