300 posts had been made about last weeks episode by this time.
151 (including this one) have been made about this weeks.

That's a huge difference in my opinion and I think it reflects the quality of this week's episode. I found it a little flat and there were lots of points in the story that I found were a little off. Things such as:

Mickey controlling a warhead via his PC.
The unresponsive nature of the entire police force.
The overuse of the whole zipper-on-the-head effects.

...to name but three.

I hope the next episode is better.

The Zipper Effects way too much.
thats why i gave this a very good this week not full marks,
the police as i said a bit earlier could this be reference to the lack way
they have been handling people like fathers for justice? etc.

One question guys (not on the forum postings that often!) but has anyone got a good enough explanation why the Doctor calls himself Doctor Who???? Why is his name not Doctor Smith LOL ???

Ohh I can't wait for Dalek.. It maybe just one, but damn I have loved those metal pepper pots since I was a child! Lets see how the Doctor behaves when there is more than 1 of them in the future episodes!

Should Rose die, and has an assistant ever died in Dr Who?

I agree that after episode 1 it got better each episode up until and including the Unquiet Dead episode.
But I'm not going to kid myself that it's getting better and better. Last week it got worse, and this week it was even more shit.
It's classic children's television that nowadays would be shown at 4.30 pm if "My Parents are Aliens", or "The Worst Witch" wasn't on.

Keith Boak is ruining Doctor Who.

It's all very well saying Doctor Who is a kids show, but I don't care, this was rubbish.
And like Bystander I saw the first half hour of that Celebrity Wresting lark.
Yes, Celeb Wrestling was pure trash, but I can see how viewers would tune it to it.

I think the ratings for this weeks Doctor Who are going to be the poorest yet.

It was crap to me.

It needs to seriously pick itself up again for it to get anything near the same sort of ratings it got in week 1.

Those very good first three epiosdes have been completely undermined by the last two, and the show is in danger of losing even more viewers.
Not a good position to be in.

I can't get over how lame this week's episode was.
Very poor.”

I have to concur with the above. As much as I enjoyed certain elements of the script and thought the sfx and some of the acting was top notch, the direction was very poorly executed. I was left with the feeling that the last two episodes had so much potential in them but it was never truly realised as effectively as it could've been. The topical references to the 45 sec attack etc were nice touches but I do hope that the Slitheen are not going to be reoccuring adversaries. Liked the idea of them being businessman wanting to break the planet up for nuclear fuel but why did they look like rejects from a Men In Black film....

Not trying to rain on anyone's parade as I appreciate from reading the comments on here that a number of you did enjoy this episode in the same way I did with another you may have disliked but it all adds to the debate which I like on here.....

Billie is a revelation though and continues to shine brighter with each passing episode...

Thought the comment made by the Slitheen, which may have been just off the cuff, was rather interesting about the Doctor being trapped in his box

May have meant nothing.....who knows...

Remember though there were no additional clues this week about the time war / bad wolf so I think that accounts for the majority of posts last week.

However, don't forget you are talking about the kiddies who were brought up on the exceptional talents and humour of the likes of Ant & Dec

Crass, rash and brass ...

This is supposed to be a programme targetted at the kiddies (and adults). Somewhat Shrek in nature - appeals to all.

Also, though Micky has improved since 'Rose', thank gawd he stayed behind. His acting is dire. The only dodgy actor in out of the whole cast IMHO (although I do confess not to be looking forward to seeing John Barrowman as Captain Jack).

Very stupid, that was.

Why did the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles warble when they removed the human skin? And if their voices were to change, why did they still sound like the voices of the humans whose skin they were using?

How did the short, fat woman move between rooms if the doors were blocked?

How did everyone know the aliens had been killed/stopped, when all that was obvious was that a missile hit Downing Street?

Ahh yes thanks for the reminder. So it won't be a big shock if Rose was killed. Well she didn't make it back in 10seconds so wonder when and if she does go back?

But Billie is defo on board for series 2 so her dying soon looks unlikely.

I agree there, but, it is not the OLD series anymore, and times have changed, so maybe in series 2/3 there maybe a death of a doctors assistant, times have changed death isn't much of a priority anymore as there as so many people on the DEATH list these days (forgive me if you think I am speaking out of terms, but I know about it), It's more of everyday life, so expect the unexpected from R. Davies!!

Perhaps as this was a two parter and the reference was made last week, RTD decided to be more subtle with this one..

Be interesting to see if there is any mention of it next week with the Dalek episode or whether it is something that won't be picked upon again until later in the series...

No, his name is not Doctor Who at all.

That's only the title of the programme.

..just seen in (thank god for sky+)
I thought it was good (and voted that way). There were too many cheap cheesy jokes aimed at the kids, which I'm not so sure even the younger viewers would buy into. I'm not particularly disappointed that this was a weak episode as Dr Who is still finding its feet (it will be doing so until the end of the second series) and I expect the style will settle down somewhat. I'm not trying to make excuses for the episode because, as I said, I thought it was a good episode . I am surprised by the level of negative comments about it, but then again I liked celebrity wrestling. (spot the lie)

I think The Slitheen 'could' have worked better if we saw them shrinking in and out of their body suits. As it was, it was all too implausible. They kind of reminded me of that Rohld Dahl film The Witches, but in a bad way. And also there was some Australian kids TV programme about aliens disguised as aliens that showed in the early nineties. I can't remember much else about it. Anyone else remember?

I skipped the first broadcast of this episode, but with the same obscene fascination as a road accident, I found myself drawn to the repeat.

The scene where the Doctor finds out who the slitheen are was a disaster. The whole thing reminded me of Scooby Doo when Shag and Scoob try to distract the villain by pretending to be barbers and movie directors. Difference is, they're funny - Doctor Who was just cringe worthy. The dialogue was trying so hard to be clever and witty.

The show seems scared of being properly serious in case people laugh at it, so it comes out with pop-culture "irony" garbage over and over again. It's like fat people who joke about themselves before someone else can. And the obsession with trying to date-stamp this series... mobile phone photos, compensation culture, celeb gossip, etc - it feels like a parody of the 00s that someone will make in 2030... Yes we know it's 2005, you don't have to keep hitting us over the head with a sledgehammer! In Sylvester McCoy's time did the show constantly refer to filofaxes, Sinclair C5s, raves, shoulder pads and other blatantly obvious 80s icons?

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that Russell T Davies isn't cut out for writing good televisual sci-fi. I don't think I've seen any of his other works so don't bother telling me what a genius he is. Is it a coincidence that the best episode by a country mile (the only episode that I've 100% enjoyed) so far wasn't written by him? 4 out of 10 for this one. And "poor" on the poll. I wasn't disappointed because I wasn't expecting much. Can't wait the Dalek episode!
