Myself and one other have pointed out the fact that in WWIII, the UN had control of Britain's nuclear launch codes. An explanation of sorts was given, with a comment that the UN insisted on it after last time.

When the doctor heard this, he was most surprised.

So what happened last time? And was it "meant" to happen, given the surprise on the Doctor's face?

I suspect much more was more going on in AOL/WWIII than has been realised.

Probably checked the TARDIS logs. As it was not made a big deal of, I would suggest that the Bad Wolf reference doesn't meam anything to the Doctor at this point.

Well, I had massive enthusiasm for eps 1 - 3, found 4 a disappointment and last night had to work at the same time so only gave it half my attention. Have just spent longer reading this thread to catch up on the details I probably missed. I agree with much that has been said and I too blame the director who must be responsible for the overall tone of the programme.

There were two times I looked up from my computer and became confused.

When Rose and (the excellent and I hope she returns) MP were running through Downing St. Why were they running like characters from a Benny Hill sketch?

Was there really a RTD gay moment between the two aliens in the lift? Or did I just misinterpret an extract out of context?

As for the Benny HIll running I have to agree but the rooms were small so making them run like that made the scene last twice as long, as for the gay seen, hmm it could be interpeted like that yes.

i think the prob with the RTD eps are that they are totally engineered into bringing a new generation into dr who. its not the all serious, all complex, all technical who i think a lot of grown ups were expecting. i still love it though

I'm just watching EOW, whilst thinking about the different theories mentioned on here, anyway in this episode at the beginning when DW is talking about how far into the future to go, you see him going through time. In this he's going through the red tunnel (in terms of the two tunnels in the start up Blue and Red)

151 (including this one) have been made about this weeks.

That's a huge difference in my opinion and I think it reflects the quality of this week's episode. I found it a little flat and there were lots of points in the story that I found were a little off. Things such as:

Mickey controlling a warhead via his PC.
The unresponsive nature of the entire police force.
The overuse of the whole zipper-on-the-head effects.

...to name but three.

I hope the next episode is better.”

I think the reason we have far fewer posts is that there is no 'Bad Wolf' reference for us to debate this week.

EDIT: Oops just notice that has already been said.

I have had a thought though. Is it possible that the BBC registering 'badwolf.org.uk' has nothing at all to do with DW?

Celebrity Wrestling had 8 million viewers, if that's any help.

Was just about to say the same thing.

I got the impression that they didn't know that much about the Doctor other that he was an alien who was messing up their plans. So there's no reason to assume they know anything about him being a Time Lord or the Tardis.

I think that is the point. It tells us something about why Rose is special. With no father and a mother who doesn't really know how to be supportive she has become unusually self reliant.

I think you'll find that the ratings given by Talk Sport are wrong. The actual figures were:

Doctor Who - 7.3 m

Celeb Wrestling - 3.8 m

Doctor Who rocks my world!

EASY! EASY! EASY!

Are these the official overnight figures? What was your source and can you provide a link?

You've hit the nail on the head.....until the last few words.

The people complaining are looking back on old Who through rose (pardon the pun) tinted spectacles....I suspect most are fans of Buffy, Angel etc.

I hate such US Sci-Fi shows because they take themselves FAR too seriously.

Doctor Who always was and (under RTD) always will be a little bit silly, not taking themselves too seriously, but full of suspense and excitement.

This series is delivering on all those levels and will undoubtedly be seen as the best incarnation of Doctor Who ever.

RTD could have done a "British Buffy" but look at the ratings- I would suggest that about 2 million of the 8 million who tune in actually want serious sci-fi, the rest want Saturday night family entertainment. There is a disproportionate number of those 2 million on these boards (discussions of Bad Wolf, nitpicking every little scene etc.), but these people must realise they are in the absolute minority of the audience.

RTD is pitching this series absolutely right- he's saved Doctor Who.

Cheers! Didn't mean to doubt your word..I just wanted to wait for the official overnight figures rather than rumour or speculation which sometimes gets posted as fact.

Wow! If those are the official figures (I've got no reason to doubt them) Celebrity Wrestling is doomed!!!!!!!

I fully agree with you that RTD had completely rebooted and successfully reintroduced Who to a new generation but as a viewer and fan I still feel it is my right, as it is yours, to comment, debate and discuss the positive and negative aspects of each episode. Never seen it as nit picking...more constructive and intelligent debate with like minded individuals on the forums.

Yes, if that's all that Celebrity Wrestling can muster the week after the weakest Doctor Who episode so far (Episode 4), then it is doomed.

This week's Doctor Who (episode 5) was better, plus we're going to have lots of Dalek trailers this week, plus the media screenings will have all the newspapers talking about it, plus Celeb Wrestling has been panned by the critics.

In fact, all in all- I suggest that next Saturday night, the British public will "ex-ter-min-ate" ITV1.

(sorry- somebody had to say it )

I agree with your rights and please don't take any offence from my remarks.

My point remains though that I don't think RTD is thinking as deeply as perhaps many of you might hope he is....trying to read signifcance for example in "stuck in your little box" [clearly a reference to the sealed cabinet room] really is scraping the barrel.

I suggest RTD is going for those key facets of excitement, suspense, emotions, fear, humour and warmth. That's Doctor Who (and always was)- it's NOT a detailed interpretation of some great science fiction mythology, where every word spoken has some greater meaning.....by all means carry on discussing it like it does though (but I suspect it'll only lead to disappointment).
