Hello I was in Halfords looking at satnavs and chose the Garmin 2598 on display.

The guy got me one out of the back and only when I got home did I realise he gave me the 2597 which is the same price hence I didn't notice at the time.

It looks like they are basically the same? Is there any significant difference? Should intake it back for exchange? (I haven't opened it)

Thanks in advance

I was looking to buy the 2598 about 18 months ago, but couldn't find one Halfords had a 2599. I asked Garmin, who took about 2 months to reply, and they said the 2599 was a newer version of the 2598.

If Halfords gave you a 2597 then this is an old model and you should ask for at least the 2598 if not the 2599.

By the way the 2599 is great, I even use if over the sat-nav built in to my Nissan Qashqai.

As far as I can see (from Googling) the only difference is in the way traffic info is delivered.

The 2597 has "Garmin Traffic", whereas the 2598 has "HD Digital Traffic".

But what exactly that difference means, you'll have to try to glean yourself from the Garmin site.

from the site, HD traffic relies on something called HD radio reception, which is DAB, i think ( DAB with dolby 5.1 surround ??) So if you are in an area where you can get DAB in surround sound then it should update with traffic info

You really want the one with digital traffic as this gets its information from the Trafficmaster sensors on motorways. It also (I think) feeds back your information to effectively crowd source the info. Bear in mind also that it has to be plugged in to the car electrics with the supplied lead/arial to work.

The basic traffic systen uses RDS which may have more of a time lag to it.
