I've been guilty of buying digital downloads recently. The most recent was La Femme a couple of days ago as thought I'd best support rather than listening to ripped versions. Any CDs I buy get ripped, then stuffed in an (overflowing) huge chest of drawers, hence my need for digital.

Hozier - Hozier
Adele - 25 Elvis - the new one with the orchestra, forget its name lol. It's for Mrs K! Lana Del Rey - Honeymoon All bought from Amazon due to the fact you also get a free MP3 rip included in the price. I genuinely can't understand why anyone would buy from anywhere else (granted I have Prime so no P&P to pay!) |

I bought Ben Haenow's album for my mum for Christmas. I think she'll like it
I ripped it to my iTunes first before hiding it in my wardrobe

The following are what I have purchased within the last month.
![]() LeAnn Rimes-Today Is Christmas Billy Joe Royal-The Royal Treatment, Tell It Like It Is, Greatest Hits, his 1992 released self named album, Stay Close To Home, and His First Gospel Album which was sadly ended up being his final album....... I heard a fair deal of Billy Joe when I was a kid, but honestly I didn't officially discover him on my own until after his going forward on October 6th, so sadly Billy Joe isn't the only one who is late and I'll never stop being ashamed of my having such a status where the beautiful precious is concerned, I love him so much!!! ![]() God bless you and his family and LeAnn always!!! Holly (a day one fan of her) P.S. I am still waiting on my copy of Billy Joe's album named Out Of The Shadows to finally get to me. |

2. Because they don't have everything that you might want. You can find tons of stuff on Discogs or ebay that isn't on Amazon. 3. Because they are an unpleasant, tax-dodging near monopoly that takes marketshare from practically everyone else and you might prefer to support smaller / local / independent / more caring retailers that aren't run by billionaire tax evaders. 4. Because they treat their staff like crap. 5. Because they treat their marketplace traders like crap. 6. Because you might want to support artists far more by buying direct from Bandcamp. 7. Because and you might prefer to support smaller / local / independent / more caring retailers that aren't run by billionaire tax evaders. |

I never buy cd's now. I have gone completely digital. Partly because I listen to a lot of music in the car and the car I have now hasn't got a cd player! So I use my phone for music now. With Apple Music I have around 30 million songs to choose from!

Can't be arsed when a perfectly acceptable rip (legal) is just one click away. My time is maybe more precious than yours? 2. They have everything I personally want (with free next day delivery due to me being a Prime member). 3-5. You make these points yet admit to buying off ebay? Bizarre reasoning there. 6. The fact I NEVER illegally download music assuages any guilt I'm apparently supposed to feel by ordering from Amazon. You ever illegally download? 7. The World is a very competitive place and I will always seek best value. Sorry. |

The fact I NEVER illegally download music assuages any guilt I'm apparently supposed to feel by ordering from Amazon. You ever illegally download? 7. The World is a very competitive place and I will always seek best value. Sorry. 1. It may be illegal to rip a CD you own, I'm honestly not that sure or concerned and I doubt most people who do it have any fear of repercussions. I assumed it was legal provided you keep the disc in your possession and possibly don't use the rips for public performance. A lot of 'laptop DJs' may be more at risk here than home users. Certainly there's nothing immoral about it and for me personally that would be of more concern than a minescule chance of being prosecuted for something theoretically unlawful. 2. It's not actually unlikely at all: it's fact but of course entirely dependent on what the individual is seeking. There's a lot of music out there. 3. I didn't admit to buying off Ebay and it's not bizarre reasoning because I made no claims about Ebay being a paragon of virtue - I said there is music for sale on it that isn't listed on Amazon - and that may be a reason why people would buy somewhere OTHER than Amazon. For the record, I DO buy off Ebay and, more shockingly perhaps, I also buy from Amazon Marketplace. I support the Marketplace traders, many of whom are excellent and better value than the site itself. I'm a marketplace seller myself too which gives insight into just how completely lousy and uncaring operation they are to work with. I also buy from the same sellers when they list on other sites e.g. Discogs and Ebay. I don't have to love something to use it. Certainly it suits Amazon and Ebay to exploit their sellers for gain, so we'll utilise their platforms even if we dislike their business practices. We may even mail out flyers with our sales telling people how to buy from us again but "off site" which is against their many rules. 3 / 4 / 5. Some people give a damn, some don't. 6. Now I never said anyone should feel guilty - I gave reasons why people may not want to. If speed is of the essence a bricks and mortar store should be the quickest way to get the release (in physical format at any rate). Not everyone has a convenient bricks and mortar store any more and online shopping with Amazon is a contributor to this. Do I ever illegally download? I might well do. I know someone who is a illegal uploader AND runs a record label but he only shares out of print music on his blog. I may drive my car too fast . I may do lots of things but I don't see it as relevant because I didn't post any of these points to indulge in a one-on-one, who has the moral highground type of argument - they really are just reasons why people may NOT want to but from Amazon. 7. I don't know anyone who charges £5 delivery on a CD unless they are overseas. I wouldn't dream of spending that. When I buy online from Honest Jon's (a bricks and mortar store in London) their postage is free on orders over £50 and shipping speed and packaging is good. Pricing, shipping and stock carried can vary widely from store to store. Juno are fairly reasonable for shipping when buying a few items or more. Some places I find a bit steep but not everything is available everywhere. Dusty Groove are good for pricing and cheap for shipping to the UK despite being in the US. I try to buy at the best prices too - and it's rarely Amazon but might often be one of the marketplace traders. I know people who try to support their local independent but it doesn't appeal to me in the case of prices being much higher. Possibly it's okay if someone only buys the odd release but I try to buy hoards of stuff so it would be foolish for me. |

True, but the Amazon free rip is of reasonable quality and it is instant. 2. I would say Amazon probably have 99.99% of what I want either direct from them or via the Marketplace. 3. That's business for you and the chances of any smaller / local / independent / more caring retailers stocking the specific CD I want at a specific time is pretty much zero. All of the smaller / local / independent / more caring retailers will have Adele's 25, for example, but the latest CD by the likes of Enochian Theory or Stream of Passion? Highly unlikely. 4. So do most businesses these days. 5. See above. 6. I do. 7. Tax evasion is illegal and as far as I'm aware Amazon haven't broken any laws. As for them being "tax efficient", blame the politicians who continue allow such practices to continue. The UK being one of the worst examples. |

Some stuff I just have to have uncompressed high-quality versions of.
Bagged these CDs for myself a week or so ago: Nils Frahm - Spaces Steve Mason - Monkey Minds In The Devils Time Jim James - Regions of light and sound of god LateNightTales - Jon Hopkins Hed Kandi: Serve Chilled: Electronic Summer (2011) Will use Exact Audio Copy to rip them, make FLACs of and then put them away for posterity. Picked up the old Hed Kandi one because it's got The C90s: Shine a light - Flight Facilities remix on it. It's the track that plays during Michael's psychedelic flying sequence in GTA V, and isn't on the official GTA CDs. I had previously got the MP3 of it, but I liked it so much I had to get it on CD, and it sounds substantially better for it. Any GTA V music fans, amazon still have a couple of the Hed Kandi CD left, going cheap - it's unmixed (separate tracks without overlap) and although it's a very slightly shorter version than the official MP3 - the end leadout is curtailed - it's the same mix. |

As much as I buy music digitally these days I still enjoy and frankly prefer the process of actually buying a physical product. But, I begrudge having to pay the sort of prices expected, even these days, so I rarely buy anything new. Give it a few months and most stuff gets reduced if you know where to look. Hence, I'm a frequent visitor to my local branch of Fopp! Bought within the last month, for I think 3/5 quid max each...
They Must Be Giants - A User's Guide To Foreigner - The Definitive Aztec Camera - The Best of Terry Hall - The Best of 1981/1997 Siouxsie and The Banshees - The Scream (Deluxe edition) |
