My wife likes Cliff Richard and I bought her for her birthday which is on December 22nd a Cliff album titled the whole story the greatest hits and she was a bit dissapointed they left off a couple of her favourites. It says EMI on the cover if I wanted to complain to EMI how would I do it as cannot see any way to contact them. Two of the songs are Congratulations and Hello Sam Goodbye Samantha.

Can't remember the last time I bought a greatest hits album that actually did have all the tracks you wanted on it. With Donna Summer I've bought about 4 of hers and still missing a few songs.

Cliff's had so many songs it would be impossible to include all of them on a double or even triple CD due to the limitations of the media. Can't you buy another CD with those two songs on?

Try this one

40 Golden Greats has both of those songs on - buy a good used copy for £2.99 plus postage. Job done.

Just checked on the Official Charts website and he has had 124 top 40 hits, 68 of which have been top 10.

Bearing that mind, it's unreasonable to expect all your wife's favourites to be on all of his best of compilation CDs. The CD you chose has 46 tracks, that's not even enough to cover all of his top 10 hits, perhaps you should have done a bit more research before choosing a compilation CD.

It's not EMI's fault and there's also the factor that they may not have the rights to all of his tracks.

Why on Earth would you complain to EMI? It's not their fault you didn't research your wife's favourite Cliff Richard songs before purchasing the album.

That compliation is very old you know, (First released in 2000) he has a new one out at the moment. Which has all the hits incuding the 2 you mention.

Greatest Hits = selection of the best tracks. Some are going to be left off.

A glaring omission is True Blue from any of Madonna's GH releases.

OK, I'll modify my response.

Agreed. It was a UK No.1 single too.

OP, splash out and buy her another Cliff collection as a surprise, triple album 75 at 75. Has both the songs you mention.

Yeah, but you've got to admit leaving "Congratulations" off is a bit of a strange choice! It's one of his most well-known songs. I was thinking it was different ownership of the sound recording (being a Eurovision thing), but "Congratulations" is EMI/Columbia like the others.

Bjork's greatest hits famously left off 'It's oh so quiet.' The tracklist was voted for by fans on her website and the song just wasn't chosen.

Apparently she hated how commercial it became.

I don't understand these artists who think they're too cool for the mainstream and hate their biggest hits. Another example is Kate Bush leaving out Babushka and Wuthering Heights from her long awaited comeback concerts.

New Art Riot is missing from The Manics' National Treasures album.

REM's In Time doesn't include Shiny Happy People, despite being one of their greatest - as in sales achieved - hits. Oddly, it was included on a later Greatest Hits compliation.

Yes it is strange as it was a No.1 hit as well as Eurovision winner. Goodbye Sam Hello Samantha isn't that well known though but one of my faves too.

It's an ep not a single.

Sneaky title as it may lead the unwary to think it incudes the whole of his greatest hits.

Shot in the Dark from Ozzy Osbourne has rarely been on any of his greatest hits, I was always surprised about this, but having done a little research it turns out it was over royalties.

Quoted from Wiki

T
Quote:
“he song was reportedly written by bassist Phil Soussan along with fellow Wildlife bandmates Steve Overland and Chris Overland, before he joined Ozzy's band. However, Osbourne was credited as a co-writer on the album sleeve. This issue has become a source of contention over the years, and in spite of its success, the song has rarely appeared on Ozzy Osbourne greatest hits compilations as a result. One exception was the original release of The Ozzman Cometh; however, the song was omitted from the 2002 re-mastered re-release of this compilation and replaced with "Miracle Man." Both Just Say Ozzy (an EP containing an alternate version of "Shot in the Dark") and The Ultimate Sin were deleted from Ozzy's catalog in 2002 for claims of unpaid royalties from Soussan.”

Thankfully to the wonders of modern technology, we can now make our own greatest hits playlists.

I can't believe you didn't bother checking the tracklisting first even I know he must have released 100+ songs course they won't all be on there

Not exactly missing as such, but it annoyed me that the recording of "Wuthering Heights" on "Kate Bush: The Whole Story" is/was a noticably different re-recording, rather than the original.
