Not sure in terms of the poll as I can never quite choose between the Christmas Invasion and a Christmas carol. A Christmas carol works best of the two as a standalone - as in an episode you could show to someone who only knows the basic's of doctor who and doesn't really watch regularly, but in terms of the episodes for people who are fan's, they both offer so much in different ways that I consider them both my joint favourites.

Running a close second to those is Last christmas.

Hang on a second, I've just realised the formula for a good Christmas episode - they just have to have the word 'Christmas' in the title .

Rewatched The Christmas Invasion and it was amazing, The Doctor Reborn again on Christmas Day!

Really liked the Next Doctor, funny and clever and gave us a little glimpse of what might have been with one time bookies favourite to take over the role.
Always loved the bit where they both pull out their sonic screwdrivers and 10 realises the other "Doctors" one is just a screwdiver.

If the excellent lady in the video loved the episode then it was good Doctor Who, as she strikes me as being the intelligent 'casual' viewer the show is aimed at. So Whithouse may be a hack but I will say he's a good one.

BIB: Neither do I, but they were hilarious and often "on the money".

Last christmas is my favourite, dunno why people like a christmas carol so much, I was bored out of my mind during that episode.

Well I thought The Voyage Of The Damned was boring but it's just an opinion like everyone else's. I personally thought The Christmas Carol was awesome.

Loved tennant as the doctor, love Kylie. Seen her a couple of times live. Voyage of the damned was awful though. Just shows if you mix 2 good things together you don't get something better.

Yes, it was awful, but it has the highest viewing figure of any 21st Century episode, so I have to put its success down to the Kylie factor. The Great British public seem to adore her and have done for a quarter of a century. I'm not entirely sure why - afaic she can't act, she can't sing and her songs are crap, so it must due to be her good looks, her pleasant personality and her Australian accent.

As far as New Who Christmas episodes are concerned, I haven't been overly impressed by any of them (and am not expecting to be impressed by today's episode either), which is why I've chosen the Classic Who option and have voted for the Hartnell episode "The Feast Of Steven" even though I've only heard it rather than seen it.

The Christmas Invasion every time. I'm surprised at the Christmas Carol being second!

I have found Moffats Xmas specials to be better than RTDs by quite a long way !
Last years special was my favourite even with the Santa shoe in.
I actually really liked this years as well

It was neck and neck until the last minute, when the Russellistas arrived to rob 'A Christmas Carol' of it's rightful place at the top of the (Christmas) tree!

Nah. I like Christmas Invasion well enough. Just trying out an alternative to 'Moffettes'. Doesn't roll off the tongue though. And yeah, I have been drinking!

The one that most sticks in my mind was "The Next Doctor", it was clever playing on speculation of Tennant's successor and felt like Doctor Who without overdoing the Christmas factor.

Looking back at this list "The Time of the Doctor" would be up there as well for Matt Smith's regeneration speech and Handles, how could we forget Handles

Well, I think 'The Husbands of River Song' now ranks up alongside the best of them, maybe sliding in behind 'A Christmas Carol' and 'Time of the Doctor'.

It's a shame the poll wasn't left until after the Xmas Episode this year, would have been nice to see where it fitted in with the others.

Though I agree it wasn't as good as A Xmas carol I'd put it right up there in my top three Xmas Day episodes though imo I wasn't overly keen on Time And The Doctor.

I must say none of the Christmas specials are particularly favourites of mine. Most of the RTD ones were awful. I think A Christmas Carol tops them all though.

A Christmas Carol.

But why is the poll closed? I can't vote.

That for me was when Doctor Who finally got a Christmas Special right. It was perfect for me. I'm happy that it appears to be popular on here as well.

When i posted the thread one of the options was to have the voting end on 25th December at 19.03. I thought that would be an ideal time to end the poll as by that stage husband of river song would have been transmitted meaning the poll would be out of date by that time. The thread went onto page 2 at one stage and iI bumped up the thread to alert people who had not voted.

I thought the board was quiet at the time and I thought it would be a good idea to see what people thought of the previous Christmas specials as a lead up to this years special.

I'm not on the forum every day though.
But in hindsight maybe it wasn't a bad idea, as most polls tend to skew towards what is freshest in the mind anyway. I suppose a poll like this would probably be better done months later to counter immediate reaction straight after the latest episode.

I'm surprised that so many liked A Christmas Carol. It was unneeded and a pure rip off of a fantastic classic. If I wanted to watch A Christmas Carol it would be one of the MANY films made of it not a pointless DW version.

However a Christmas Invasion and the Snowmen were my favourites.
