I believe the plan is for the 6P to get an update in Q1 that will make ALL versions compatible with Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE on many networks. Presumably other manufacturers will wise up and seek to do the same, just as we wouldn't expect to need a EE phone to use mobile data on EE (just add the right APN settings).

That's excellent news and i hope that is the case. Do you have a source for this though?

Thanks

The source is me. You'll have to decide if I'm credible or not!

I spoke to Huawei at a Christmas party and then at an event done with Google (for the 6P) and discussed the issue of VoLTE. Although I could only be told about what Huawei itself is working on for Google, I'd assume Google is going to be requesting the same support from LG and Motorola.

Appolgies for lack of response, been busy over here.

You forgot to add that their tariffs are more expensive than they are here.

$50/month (about £33) plus tax, gets you unlimited mins and texts and 2GB of data on contract.
Yes it is more expensive but then it is a huge place compared to our tiny island, so I would expect to pay more.

* You must have an iPhone or have paid a ridiculously high amount for an Android handset from EE on a 24 month contract.

If T-Mobile can work with Google to get VoLTE / VoWiFi working without custom firmware on nexus devices, EE could too. The 5X/6P have been out for months now and they still don't support these features.
Indeed, also don't EE still treat their SIM only customers as second class citizens with no access to 4G+/LTE-A?

The USA is a big place, can you be more precise? What percentage of the population has access to that level of service? What percentage of the country has access?
Southern California, just slightly north of Los Angeles.

Thanks for the infomation, will be great if they can support other VoLTE networks with the level of integration I am currently experiencing.

Anyway here are some screenshots from my 6P (edited where needed), happy new year all.

The reason cost are higher in US are because they do not have the same degree of coverage of all the networks ie many areas do not have much choice.

The fact is the uk was several years ahead of us developing its mobile phone infrastructure, and most areas can get two or three services, plus a number of mnvo suppliers, resulting in much better deals for customer.

Do you have to use TinyPic? It's full of popups and ads and is horrible to use on a smartphone.

Any chance you could use imgur?

Thanks!

Many thanks for these pictures.

Looking on the FCC map for Los Angeles, T-Mobile have 25MHz on band 4 there available, do you know how much they actually run? They are doing some band 12 CA in some markets though I've read just must not be yours. If you have 20MHz on band 4 and maybe some 4x2 antennas they probably won't need to. Remember #uncarrier fight the duopoly in the Legere cult fashion.

Have to second that I'm afraid, hate to moan when someone's took time to upload useful stuff, but I can never get tiny pic to display images on my tablet or phone.

Or upload the screen shots folder to Google Photos and share them. Even easier I'd have thought? You can create one link for all the pictures you selected.

People should be happy to have 4G, Wi-Fi calling and possibly VoLTE on some networks in the UK, us folk on Virgin Mobile are stuck in the 2000's with only a 3G connection for the foreseeable future. They are nothing but a complete waste of space of a network.

Virgin has certainly fallen somewhat behind of late, given the lack of 4G and the reduced allowances etc.

I'm not even sure if the discount for being a Virgin Media customer makes it worthwhile anymore, if it ever did.

To be fair, for the last week I've turned off 4G to see if I notice any difference. So far I actually don't. Mind you, my 3G is quite nippy anyways. Might keep it off for longer to see what happens

You went for the cheap MVNO option, if you want the full experience then sign up directly with a network and you can have them.

There are plenty of 3G only MVNOs still in operation.

Whist I don't disagree that the UK was ahead, we are now looking distinctly second rate compared to some others with the chronic lack of investment and slow rollouts.

Yes the US has a long way to go when it comes to coverage and pricing but I can say for me my experience has been good so far.

Many thanks for these pictures.

You are welcome, no I do not know but I assume I am in a band 4 20x20Mhz area with some band 12 or Extended Range LTE in Legere speak.

The version of the 6P I have is the international/global model so I am missing band 12 and most/all US CA support, I have not seen any LTE on band 2 as yet.

How does that relate to my comment you quoted?

I didn't say all MVNOs were 3G, did you think I did?

Well, it is coming this year apparently, but there was a logic behind that. Samsung is trying to reduce its range of handsets in most markets this year, and I assume networks already wanted less phones to sell.

Samsung knows most people don't use the stylus, so the S6 edge+ was considered the one to release in many markets. I think Samsung was right, although perhaps it should have sold the Note 5 SIM free via its web store - but maybe didn't because it would have annoyed networks?

I think I meant to write "BT Mobile is one of the _few_ 4G MVNO's" but some words got missed.
