Its amazing, it was only a couple of years ago this board was full of people calling for Taylor to be knighted, to win SPOTY and to be made the next Pope. Funny how times change

The reality is Taylor can't intimidate MvG and he doesn't like it.
If a player did what Taylor did tonight to him he would be fuming. |

To be fair I took it as being a complement. MVG play is nasty and a bully and not a walkover.

Were you not one of those people, Darren?
When he was winning everything his behaviour was excused but he hasn't changed as a person |

No, I have had many arguments on here with people regards Taylor.
Quote:
I have often said I think he is the greatest player ever but as a person he is thoroughly unlikeable. He has had so much smoke blown up his arse over the years that he believes his own hype now. Remember the Barney business a few years ago ? Just because Barney said "I'm not scared of him". Why should he be ?
I think this situation is the inevitable consequence of the way Taylor has dominated the sport for the last 20 years and the resulting way that Sky and the PDC have built the sport around him in the last 20 years.I don't think any sportsman in the world would be able to stop their arrogance and ego inflating to skyscraper-like proportions if the whole focus of the sport is on you for such a long time. Trouble is, though, that doesn't last forever - and it's not easy to put your feet back on the ground when you've had all that attention and all that adulation over so many years. A few people have asked why Sky brushed off Taylor's antics tonight - as they have done so often in the past - and I believe that the answer is that they do it to keep him onside in the fear that he might retire and lose them and the PDC so many casual viewers and followers. I don't know who Taylor has advising him but if they have any sense of pragmatism, they'd tell him what a fool he acted tonight - and is acting with alarming regularity - and tell him that the time has come to make an exit before he irreversibly loses his dignity and irreversibly spoils his legacy. |

You are right Jason. Sky, the PDC and darts in general needs Phil Taylor. This week has shown he can still compete as a player but his class only extends to his play on the oche, not off it.

As a casual follower who knows about Phil's antics and found that discussion interesting, how does the sport move on after his retirement? He's not going to play forever so Sky will need to seriously get the hype machine going behind a few other players.

MVG is way out ahead but you have Lewis and Anderson who are both 2 time world champions, Barney still has a few years left in him, Wade and Wright will still be around. Just need some more of the youngsters getting a name for themselves. |

THere's a little group who should be able to keep a good profile for the sport.

Smith could be the one to push it on. |

Taylor moves down to number 4 in the world and number 2 in England. Lewis swaps places with him. Suljiovic moves into the top 16 by swapping places with VVdV

The only guy who came off as an idiot tonight was Phil Taylor made himself look a fool with his antics. Undignified is putting it mildly. Glad MGV won. |

Dear lord https://issuu.com/dartsweekly/docs/darts_weekly_30 The depth of field right now should mean that MvG shouldn't win as many tournaments as he does but he continues to do so. Now I know his only got 1 world championship and may not win this year but his still winning an awful lot in a field not seen before. |

What an absolute prat
Pete Dyos has been suspended by the Darts Regulation Authority following an alleged tweet he posted in regards to the Paralympics earlier this week. Dyos, a PDPA member who currently competes on the PDC’s Challenge Tour, has been suspended with immediate effect. The tweet in question, posted by Dyos on Wednesday evening, read: “Just when you think TV can’t get any worse… The div Olympics starts.” The PDC published a statement on their website on Friday morning, saying: “Following a comment made on social media by Pete Dyos, a PDPA Associate Member who competes on the PDC’s Challenge Tour, the Darts Regulation Authority has suspended the player with immediate effect and will launch an investigation.” Nevertheless, Dyos apologised unreservedly for his conduct on Thursday. He said: “Morning Twitter world, yesterday I said something that was out of order, was a joke that went too far and didn’t mean to offend to anyone. I have family and friends with disabilities/illness and have lost my own mother due to tragedy, anyone who is and was offended I’m sorry.” |

Whatever happened to free speech? If he believed it, which I'm sure he did when he posted it, and it's his opinion (and I would imagine the opinion of some others too) then he is within his rights to say it.The UK is getting too soft these days, and people too easily offended - some appear to be "professionally" offended. If you don't like what's posted on social media - leave it alone. |

I am lucky I have no disability but I can imagine being born with no arms or legs or no sight is pretty damn hard enough without so called sports stars calling you a 'div'. Nobody chose their disabilities and some acquired them fighting for their country. Likewise if you don't like watching people overcome adversity through sport don't watch it then you won't have to take to social media to slate it I cannot see how calling a blind man, a 14 year old girl with no legs or a table tennis player with no arms nasty names is freedom of speech. To me it is bullying, disrespectful and insulting. Here is some freedom of speech for you AT Notts, they are all twice the sports star that ******** will ever be |

He'll never be famous for his darts so he might as well be infamous for being a complete tw*t.
