His usual self on TV for me he seems to be tired or something I don't know, lots of 40s and 60s chasing trebles around the board.

Anyway apart from an average final it was fantastic.

Bloody hell, just when you think he's done the old git bounces back yet again.

But enough about Mr. Pitkin- what a performance that was from Philip.

I despise the bloke but he has been the best player by a mile this weekend and thoroughly deserves it.

He's like the Germans in the World Cup you never rule him out.

That's quite a significant victory for Taylor.

So many people think he's past his best and yet he's gone into a tournament against the seven other best players in the world - and a final against the best player in the world - and he's seen them off in fairly untroubled fashion, you have to say.

He's played and won five long course matches in a weekend and he's done it within the biggest shop window the PDC has ever had, provided by the BBC.

Quite the confidence boost going into the Grand Prix, GSOD and the Worlds.

I was thinking this so have had a look around

I am sure he has won every PDC major. But in the BDO he won the worlds, the masters and the World Darts Trophy. Only one he didnt win was the International League.

Yeah I was hoping MVG would overtake Phil on the H2H by the time the Power retires as no one has done that to Taylor (well, unless we count the likes of Aden Kirk!). But with the gap back up to seven now, I'd say it's unlikely.

I have to say that Paul Nicholson has been a great pundit this week

I think the BBC has done an excellent job this weekend in overall terms.

Jason Mohammed was solid and professional and asked relevant questions, as did that Caroline lady who did the interviews, and Nicholson and Webster provided good insight and analysis - particularly in those sections in the match breaks where they threw at the board in the studio.

The actual match coverage and spotting was a little slipshod at times but as I said yesterday, I thought it was perfectly acceptable when you consider that the sheer speed of the action was a world away from what the BBC ever had to cover at Lakeside.

As I said earlier, though, did the tournament give the BBC enough to convince them to cover PDC events on a more lasting basis or was it just an experiment that they'll now back out of?

They did give the tournament an awful lot of promotion and airtime over the last few days so wonder whether they wanted a good immediate return - or have the mindset that it needs to be "built up" and given longer exposure to the viewers first.

One way or another, I imagine there'll be a few people at PDC HQ nervously waiting for the viewing figures to come through tomorrow.

Caroline Barker was excellent. Great interviewer, not just a 'dolly' like on Sky

Even Alan Warriner Little was good and he usually annoys me on ITV

The BBC commentary was excellent, mind you anything is better than listening to that buffoon Wayne Mardle and his pro Taylor shouting during games

Sid Waddell got away with it because he was the original, but even he become tiresome

I enjoyed the darts this weekend. So good having it on the BBC without ads.
Paul and Mark were very good team members as well.

Wanted a bit more of a fight from MVG in the final but it was still good.

I found the breaks, without the commercials rather artificial - I suppose because you get used to seeing never ending betting ads on Sky and ITV. The punditry in the breaks was a bit tedious, and it might have been better to run BBC commercials - there are plenty of them!!

The other thing that really didn't work for me was the artificial pause in John Macdonald's flow whilst we saw the pics. of the players. He's probably the best MC in the business and it didn't do anything to help the build up.

Paul Nicholson and Alan Warriner-Little were both excellent - I was slightly surprised, perhaps also relieved, that the BBC didn't wheel in Richard Osman to present!!

Spot on about Ms Barker. I'm sick to death of the "dolly bird" female "experts!!!!" on SKY and their utterly pathetic ability to actually interview and ask relevant questions. Ms Barker certainly wasn't a "dolly bird" but she was a 100 times better and more interesting interviewer.
All in all, I thought the BBC's coverage was really good. The Welsh presenter and Nicholson were really good, thought Webster looked a little uncomfortable at times though.
Excellent commentary too, well done the Beeb bet they're glad they aren't covering the abysmally poor quality BDO darts anymore too.

Bit too early for the proper BARB figures, should be in a week. I am guessing we are looking at around 1.5m. Baring in mind it was up against SCD and X Factor that isn't bad. But that is just my guess

Webster really has fallen down the rankings, semi finalist last year, this year he doesn't even get a sniff.

Actually his ranking is considerably higher that it was this time last year. He is now 22 in the world, last year he was 32.
