The commentators and pundits seem to be at odds, can there be a 9 dart shoot out or not?

They are saying that if Adams ties Hopp on points and legs, then it goes down to who won their game when thy played each other. Surely if that was the case there'd never be the possibility of a shootout?
I thought that. I think they have just introduced the rule about winner of match between the two.

They're at it again, they're now saying there can be a throw off if Thornton and van de berg are level. I wonder if the play off only happens if the players are tied on 4 points as opposed to 2?

I wonder if its only if a tie for 2nd and 3rd. If its between 1st and 2nd they are both through aren't they ? so maybe that is result between them.

He did because Russ called 54 instead of 64 therefore the marker had 41 left

But Adams and Hopp would have been tied for 2nd and 3rd on 2 points and they said it came down to who won their respective game for who would go through.
All very confusing.

What a great match between Whitlock and Smith. Cracker

Good result for the BDO. 5 players through from the group stages. Got their work cut out in the second round though. Some tough games

My conclusion is that Sky havent a clue what is going on. Seems that RTL (Dutch telly) have been adament all along that there is a 9 dart shootout if 2nd and 3rd are level on points and leg difference, so Adams WOULD have got one had he won 5-3 the other night (despite Sky saying this wasnt the case).

So the Dutch knew the rules and Sky didnt

ITV never had this problem. Much preferred this tournament when it was on ITV4.

I like the ITV coverage too. No one player is treated like royalty, like Sky do, and they don't keep going on about rivalries etc

The one weak link in the ITV line up for me was Alan Warriner Little with his constant puns and BDO belittling, but he has calmed down a lot now.

For me he's no less irritating than Rod Harrington. Standout on the ITV team is Chris Mason, and Jacqui Oatley makes a much better presenter than Dave Clarke.

A Fancy Hughes to win here tonight, and if Barney doesn't turn up Durrant is easily the best of the BDO so that could be a game.

The scoring seems largely irrelevant in this opening game, both players are having numerous double attempts even if one is coming from about 200 behind

Don't think I will bother. Cannot honestly see there being that much that we haven't seen before.

Anderson doesn't seem right to me since wearing specs even when he was winning,

Maybe he is just still adjusting? so many loose darts.

No BDO player has won a long distance game at this event since 2013, exposing the lack of TV opportunities on that side of the divide as clearly a handful of the players are very good indeed.
