As he's about to scoop up yet another televised major, I wonder if this will be another season where MVG wins seemingly everything but then trips up in the biggie. You'd think not but the one thing about the set format is, is it is a bit of a leveller.

Seems crazy if he'd still be behind Gando and Lewis on number of world titles given his dominance of the sport, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility....

11-3. Ridiculous. 23rd title this year alone. Must be the hottest favourite for the world title ever surely

Procession, pure and simple.

Now we wait to see who MvG will get in the first round of the Worlds when the draw is made on Sky Sports News tomorrow at 3.30.

I think he came close a lot of times. 2008 he won all but the UK Open. Barney beat him in the last 8

Here's the draw for the first round of the PDC World Darts Championship:

Mervyn King v Steve West
Cristo Reyes v Dmitri van den Bergh
Ian White v Kevin Simm/Gilbert Ulang
Steve Beaton v Devon Petersen
Raymond van Barneveld v Robbie Green
Mensur Suljovic v Ron Meulenkamp
Michael van Gerwen v Ross Snook/Kim Viljanen
Benito van de Pas v Tengku Shah/Masumi Chino
Jamie Lewis v Mick McGowan
Peter Wright v Jenny Hendriks/Warren Parry
James Wade v Ronny Huybrechts
Robert Thornton v Zoran Lerchbacher/Simon Stevenson
Simon Whitlock v Boris Koltsov/Dragutin Horvat
Jamie Caven v Kevin Painter
Phil Taylor v John Bowles/David Platt
John Henderson v Andrew Gilding
Alan Norris v John Michael
Michael Smith v Ricky Evans
Terry Jenkins v Josh Payne
Brendan Dolan v Christian Kist
Daryl Gurney v Jermaine Wattimena
Stephen Bunting v Darren Webster
Joe Cullen v Qiang Sun/Corey Cadby
Gerwyn Price v Jonny Clayton
Dave Chisnall v Rowby-John Rodriguez
Justin Pipe v Chris Dobey
Mark Webster v Joe Murnan
Kim Huybrechts v James Wilson
Adrian Lewis v Magnus Caris
Vincent van der Voort v Max Hopp
Gary Anderson v Mark Frost
Jelle Klaasen v Jeffrey de Graaf

One footnote: the only reason that Kevin Painter made the draw at all is because a place shuffled down to him after poor Kyle Anderson - who would have been a seed - had to withdraw from the tournament after being unable to secure a British visa.

Yes I'm gutted for Kyle Anderson seems a good bloke and a player with potential, shame.

Smith v Evans could be all over before Justin Pipe's thrown his warm up darts.

Eric Bristow comments trending on Twitter.
Fair chance a large degree of alcohol has been consumed.

May not be appearing at World Championships this year.

Don't think there's any 'may' about it, Sky won't tolerate this.

Had been here for months without a visa apparently, my sympathy is limited.

The boys in the editing room will be busy cobbling together some new promo's. At least we've seen the last of those cringey star wars fancy dress ads with Mardle.

Eric's comments certainly were not very "crafty", just downright horrible, there goes his career on the TV, all for what, a few seconds or minutes on twitter, deary me.

Eric.............what a plonker. Why ruin your TV career for being a idiot geezo. Suppose Sky won't mention him on any of their broadcasts

Indeed; Sky are very quick and decisive when it comes to dealing with controversies involving their personnel and pundits, and so it's proved again.

I don't imagine they'll miss him as a commentator and pundit but they might do as a spotter, so I wonder whether Sky might be giving Richard Ashdown or Huw Ware a call in the next few days.

(Under the adage that "all publicity is good publicity", though, I wonder whether some at Sky will be pleased at the awareness of Sky's darts coverage appearing on other media outlets a fortnight before the Worlds begin.)

Huw Ware actually does work for the PDC now so he would be a good shout as the new spotter

Yeah they were very quick off the blocks to do so, and credit to them for doing so, you simply cannot allow such things to fester.

He doesn't deserve any airtime ever again, or until he makes a sincere and grovelling apology face to face, to those people who he insulated with those horrible and very much undeserved comments.
