Jay WAS a shoe in, but Georgia is coming up fast on the rails

I've been watching some of the series dances streamed from Youtube onto the TV and it gives a much better view than rewatching on a PC.

Seeing as Jay is not doing the Jive, unless they do something dramatic like the Tango or AT as their choice he may struggle to get votes from ex-X factor newbies and the many viewers who only vote on finals night. (e.g. I don't think either of the waltzes, Am Smooth or foxtrot would be a winner and even if they did a brilliant Rumba it is never a great crowd pleaser).

Unless the showdance is a wow (the music is underwhelming to me, but that is personal choice), Jay will need to have all his historical (or is it hysterical? ) support to win. Many of Georgia's dances are looking extremely good - apart from wobbling about even the jive back in September looked good and her Charleston is sure to win votes unless Jay does something special in dance 3.

Jay had better hope his fans are loyal and not fickle, feeling let down by the non-jive.

Nice, you've managed to insult not only Jay, but those who support him.

Next!

Insult? In what way?

I would like Jay to win but there are lots of comments from his fans about the disappointment felt in not seeing the jive again. I can't believe that everyone who intends voting has already decided who to vote for leaving no-one to vote for the best performances on the night. I just think Jay needs to have 3 good dances not just turn up, and with the QS spoken for in round 1, there is a limited set of dances to choose from that would be certain to grab the votes in the second half of the show.

Jay and Aliona will have a fabulous showdance, they'll have ironed out the mistakes from the QS and hopefully round the night off with a stunning Paso or AT.

What's not to love?

I agree with you and don't find anything you say insulting.

I feel he has let people down in not doing the jive, I know his defenders disagree, but people were wanting to see the dance of the series again, there's no two ways about it.

As someone pointed out, there are those who don't spend their time on youtube and do not watch ITT and just watch the main show on it's own, so won't know about it until Saturday and will be disappointed when they don't see it.

The whole excuse thing, he is too nervous, coupled with the whole 'we want to keep it special' when they are doing it on tour, well it's silly.
If he hasn't got the nerve to do it, I mean, come off it and perform, it's what we all do as performers.

I had intended on voting Jay, but he hasn't got the winning edge for me, so I feel like I will throw my votes over to Kellie or Georgia, whoever brings their best on the night.

Don't worry OP, anyone can see this is an objectove post without anything even resembling an insult!!
And it's true!! This final is nowhere near as one sided as some would have us beieve!! I firmly believe the vast majority of the voting public will choose the showdance they like the best on the night!! I believe Jay has enough support to make the last three even with an average dance but beyond that I think Georgia's Charleston was very much loved, as was Kelly's American Smooth from last week (should she choose to perform it again)!! Add to that the 'Anton factor' & I really believe Jay will need to win on merit rather than popularity!!
Add to that the disappointment of no jive for his fans (and for me for that matter even as a Georgia fan) & I predict a very close result which could go any one of four ways!!

Of course I could be totally wrong.....

I think Kellie is doing the Charleston as her chosen dance so that means there will be two to choose from. Might split the votes.

I think its pretty even stevens - people have their favourites which is fair enough but all the couples are flawed in one way or another and scoring similarish. Nailing colours to mast, I'm with K&K, so uncool they're truly hip-daddio

How can you say this without even seeing what does in the final? Talk about closing the gate BEFORE the horse has bolted!

Having now seen that Jay is doing a Paso, I think it is good enough choice. Although the woman gets to most of the showing off twirling and flashing the skirt about, Jay looks good in the dramatic & commanding poses in the Paso and being quite tall & well built he looks quite dominant. If they wear the same clothes as first time round not only will Jay get votes for the performance but a half naked Aliona should bring in any wavering male voters

Jay will get votes for his appearance too. His paso look was amazing!

Loved Georgia, but felt she got an easy ride and lost momentum for the semi-final.

I think that without THAT jive for Jay, Kellie is the other one to watch. She was easily the best dancer last weekend, has the best looking of the showdances so far, and she is doing the Star Wars Charleston again the week that the new film comes out... She has gone from talented annoyance to my chosen victor so far, but performance and scores on the night will ultimately decide who I vote for.

I have never taken judges scores into account when deciding who to vote for. It is too easy for them to protect their favourites with high scores.

Thanks! I just saw your link on the other thread

Maybe - people talk about the momentum of the last few weeks building up to the final and giving an edge to those with good QF & SF performances - it certainly worked for Caroline Flack who got better every week in December.

With Youtube you can set up a playlist and with no preamble or judges comments all you get is 60 - 90 seconds of dance. so you can very quickly go through quite a lot. Thus the impression that Georgia was consistently good but if they were viewed in chronological order, Kellie has definitely been as good as any over 3-4 weeks.

The only competition is for 2nd place Jay will win this easily and I hope Georgia is 2nd.

I agree, that is a very poor excuse. Any good dancer, and he is a good dancer, should be able to reproduce a routine - and so what if it is not exactly the same, it will be close and that should be good enough.

If they said they didnt want to do it as they preferred one of their other dances, fair enough. But to omit the jive, because of being scared ? of not doing it right, makes it seem like it was a one off wonder that they are not able to do properly again ....... and, to me, this reduces Jay's standing somewhat. Which is really a shame, because he is very good and should be able to dance any of his routines a second time.

It's more scores as in what I think they deserve. Definitely not interested in the judges tweaking the odd point out of bias, but they do vaguely represent if someone has forgotten routine, gone wrong, lacked technique etc. Essentially, but I could think Kellie the best dancer if the scores in my mind are 7s and 8s through error/poor form on the night, she's lost my vote kind of thing. I usually go for the technical best in the final

BIB - agree completely. His most outstanding dance seems to be one he can't repeat, and the other dances were frankly on par with Georgia and Kellie (and sometimes worse). I will reserve judgment until the final to decide who gets my vote.

Ah, I see. It makes more sense if you are giving your own score and using that.

How can it spilt the votes? I don't think people vote e=because they like a genre of dance, they just like the actual dances.

With the Paso it will be a surprise (to me) if Jay doesn't win. I was worried that he might do a beautiful Waltz or AS that would look tame alongside the Charlestons. His biggest danger may be if somehow Kellie or Georgia goes out in round 1. If Kellie's votes go to Georgia or vice versa the beneficiary wouldn't be far behind. Then again I think the first half votes get carried forward so if one of Kellie or Georgia went out, they wouldn't have a massive number of votes to switch in the 2nd half. Who would Katie's votes go to?

If it is true that Strictly gets new viewers after the X factor ends, wouldn't Jay & Georgia be the right age and profile to share their votes?
