It's a strange one, people usually pick the dances people love and remember from the series, like Kellie and Georgia, people know what songs they did them to.”

Their choices are almost deliberately (?) low-key. I wonder if it is because their fans have rewatched so much on youtube and been so prominent on social media, maybe Jay and Aliona are trying to surprise them and keep things fresh by not going for the most obvious choices? It's like when you fall in love with a book or a film. At first it's the big important passages that matter but after a time you learn to find depth in less obvious places. Could be that something like that is in the background...

For the very very selfish that I don't want GG to repeat their Paso (and I'm hoping this makes it less likely), I'm quite glad Jay is doing his. But it is -- for me -- a not obvious choice for the final.

It's not as memorable as some of the others so less pressure. Maybe they loved dancing it or something, though I can't recall hearing before that was their favourite or anything.

Saying that, I remember most of the paso, and love the song but other than the lightsabers and a LOT of side by side I don't remember Kellie's charleston. Georgia has the wig and the back flip and great swivels, but again can't remember the details - I remember it was fab but not much else. Know it's a song from Chicago but couldn't tell you which one.

Yes - but the majority of the GBP do not read the BBC Strictly website - so a fairly large amount of the public won't know that Jay is doing the Paso not the Jive as many are expecting. Whereas if they watch ITT they will know K&K and G&G are both doing a Charleston as their choice. Weird to say the least.

And a lot of Strictly viewers don't watch ITT either.

Will they announce at the beginning of the show what all the dances will be? Or will most people be voting only to find out the last dance is not the jive?

All of J&A's dances have been announced in some form.

I was hoping J&A would choose their Tango, but the Paso is dramatic too which you need in the final. I didn't remember their Paso until I followed the link, but then I remembered thinking Jay lost some of the shaping as the dance went on, but they will have it perfected by Saturday.

I thought K&K's Charleston was naff tbh, but I might like it better in the final.

Love the paso. So glad they're doing it.

They did say they wanted to do a dance they could improve on. The paso had so much potential. It was great but could've been better .. they now have the opportunity to correct the slight mistakes.

They've already got the QS for that.

The paso is my least favourite of all the dances so I'm not happy with that choice.

Let's be honest ... He could be doing the Hokey Cokey and he'll still win

I don't understand their thinking at all, if it wasn't the jive then I thought surely it would be their tango?!

Agree but it's good to bring your best stuff to the final. I don't think that paso was.

Hmmm. J&A's Paso didn't grab me at all first time round and I thought the music choice was terrible. I think it's a mistake not doing the jive - sorry but I do. I'm still hoping they'll be a last minute change of heart on it 😬 That bloody awful Quickstep as well - awful song, awful choreography. I think even if it had been danced perfectly, I'd still have disliked it.

However, I am looking forward to their show dance. I didn't know the song but, now I have heard it on YouTube, I think it's absolutely perfect for them.

I don't remember K&K's Charleston at all but that could be because I hate Star Wars. Or because I really dislike both Kellie AND Kevin. It may well be that I'd just blanked it from my memory because of all three.

They're doing dances they love which is, for me, surely the point of it all

That's probably not a dance that they wanted to revisit all things considered. Stitched up with theming and song.

Jay & Aliona are the only pair we know all their dances this week

I love their Paso, one of the dances I rewatch a lot on youtube. It was the week after the QS so I'm sure Jay was a little nervous. He has grown so much as a dancer from that week and I can't wait to see what they have tweaked. I was kind of relieved when they said they weren't doing the Jive, it was a magic moment in the show and would be hard to capture that again without tainting the first time round. Once I knew the Jive was a no no I had hoped for the Paso or Tango so I'm happy (well I wanted the Charleston but with GG & KK doing it there was no hope)

I've not heard them say they loved the QS or the Paso over the other dances. It was a well-kept secret.

The QS is the judges' choice.

As for the Paso, I didn't know they were obliged to make a public announcement that it was their favourite dance in order for the viewers to accept the decision to repeat it in the final.

This seems a pointless argument to me, given that the decision has been made and it's too late to change it. Perhaps next year, people can lobby for public's favourite, with a phone/internet vote to decide the dance, but this year it's the couple's choice.

I think that's a good idea. It would certainly have made things very clear about how much the public was wanting to see something like Jay's jive - instead, Jay and Aliona have swerved it (for whatever reasons they gave), and everyone is crying 'but.... we wanted to see it again', and there's nothing to be done about it. Having an ITT poll that stuck his dance way out in front of all the other options would have perhaps made it a very clear what the public wanted in their final.

Instead, we get the judges deciding that the final needs to see some previously poorly performed/mistake littered dances again, in the hope that they're improved. I mean, yes of course they will be - or at least the judges will persuade us that they are! - but the finale is for the best of the best dances, IMO. I don't care if a dance was performed near perfectly the first time round, I'd be happy to see a wonderful dance done twice!

I have to admit never liking a judges choice in the final - one public and one couple's choice would be my preference. So, the couple still get to pick a dance, they also get to do the showdance of their choice, but the public gets a say in what we see on final night. Actually, even with a public vote this time, I suspect we would have gotten some of the dances the couples have ended up picking - G&G's charleston, K&K's charleston and K&A's VW likely would have been at or near the top of my picks (only G&G's samba instead perhaps, as I loved it so much). The glaring omission is the jive. The thing is, had the paso really, truly been J&A's favourite dance, they could still have picked it as their choice. But, as everyone has said, the decisions are made, there's no getting that jive back, and it is really rather sad!
