Help please. I have a four year old Panasonic DMP-BDT110 Blu-ray player that has not had much use since new. The last time it was used, approx six months ago, all was fine. I switched it on a few days ago and just a black screen on the Panasonic Viera tv.
I have tried three HDMI leads and another tv. It works using the AV output, so I was able to download the latest firmware 1.92. Factory reset and every option on the menu tried and a spray of switch cleaner into the HDMI socket, but still a black screen. On turning on the unit the TVs see it and switch to the correct HDMI input. No problem with other HDMI units such as sat boxes. I lifted the lid and no trace of blown caps or duff solder joints, mind you most of the solder joints are too small to see.
Do I now use it as a door stop or a basic DVD player, or am I missing something simple?

If you can see the "HDMI video format" menu when using SCART set it to "AUTO" if it is not already. Always possible the video format is set to something the TV doesn't like. If it isn't that then it is possible the HDMI output is cream-crackered.

The only way to be certain is to connect the player to another TV and see if you get a picture. If you can't get any picture on any TV then that does suggest the HDMI out is broken.

Hi Chrisjr
It has been tried on another tv, but again a black screen after the tv saw it and switched to to correct HDMI input. All set to auto in the menu after checking every other option.
Is a repair possible ? I think that a new unit may be the best idea.
Would an LG, Phillips or Sony or others with 3D provide 3D that a Panasonic Viera TX-L37DT30B could cope with?

PS Happy Christmas to all in Reading, having spent 18 years working there.

You could likely repair it. Whether it would be worth it in terms of cost vs how much the thing is worth or the cost of a new one is another matter.

3D is pretty much standard regardless of the make. So you should be able to mix and match OK. I would go with Sony from your three options, followed by LG and trailing way behind Phillips (who don't have a very good reputation these days by all accounts).
