EE Nick cotton exit good or bad?
It's been nearly a year with Nick Cotton dead but do you think his exit was good or bad?
I think it suited the character but can't help but feel it was too low key, and if I was going to kill Nick off it would have to be explosive. Your thoughts |

It wasn't low key in the slightest..... The story line building up to his exit went on for a few months

It was bad and DTC was basically trying to re create history.
Also Nick should never have been killed because it was nice to think that he was still out there up to no good. |

It was tragic. Murdered in cold blood by your own mother. Disgusting.

Very fitting I thought. He went full circle dying in the same place he killed Reg prior to episode 1.

I didn't realise he was being killed off, so I was shocked when it happened. I haven't particularly liked the character over the years, so I thought it was fitting in the end. Dot finally ran out of patience.
The only time I sort of liked him was seeing him in clips in early episodes. It's like a different character being a bit more formidable. What was he like in the 80s? |

I liked the story but Dot got over it very quickly and is now twittering away about the 'Babeee Jesus' and nativity plays as if it never happened.

It was good, the only thing I would have liked to see is a bit more of the funeral, it seemed a little brief, a couple of short scenes, to say goodbye to a long term character

It was very good IMO.
I thought it was fitting and I really enjoyed the episode, as it paved the way for LOVE week. |

I was sad that he was killed off but it was a fitting end for the character, and ironic that he died in the place where he murdered Reg Cox Nick was never going to survive to old age (john altman is in his early sixties but I think Nick was around 19 when he first appeared making him in his late forties when he died)

His return from the dead involved multiple characters and was the catalyst for everything that happened on NYD (tha crash, emma's death, Ronnie's coma, Phil's imprisonment), his actual death was beautifully done with Dor and the discovery of the body and Dot confessing was a major part of the 30th Anniversary week, including the recreation of the first scene. I'm not entirely sure how it could have been bigger unless they'd had him take people hostage and be shot down in a hail of bullets or similar. We needed Dot to still be around to give his exit gravitas so it was good they decided to do it when she was still able to do the story justice as, without tempting fate, she can't go on working forever. So, although I'm sad he's gone as i did love him and the turning up like a bad penny i I do think it was necessary, well done and ultimately worth it. |

The only time I sort of liked him was seeing him in clips in early episodes. It's like a different character being a bit more formidable. What was he like in the 80s? He was always small time though and rather seedy. He could intimidate or cajole the young or weak into doing what he wanted (people like teenaged Mark or Mary the Punk) but nobody major like Den or even Poete Beale. He was always seen as more of an irritant than anything else, at least until he managed to blackmail Kathy and then kill Eddie a few years later. I do agree that Nick could have existed as a character without Dot (he did at first) but if they were ever to kill him off, I think Dot needed to be there to get a reaction. Also, would most of Albert Square put up with him if not for Dot? They'd probably run him out of the Square every time he appeared once they no longer had to worry about upsetting her. |

Good. It allowed him to be in Wolverhampton's Panto this year.

It was a good exit but it's nice knowing that Nick was always out there ready to cause more chaos to dot
