Facebook app updates
ney

Has anyone noticed that once in a while the Facebook app seems to take a few seconds longer than most other apps to install on the phone.

It's a poorly optimized app, on Android at least

Agreed and when you add in Facebook's policy of having trying out new UI "improvements" on a percentage of users (which means the app contains multiple versions of the same bits of code) its no wonder.

It does seem to have finally been recognised and there are reports of Facebook developers being forced to use the Android version so as to optimise it. ( Previously many of them used either iPhones or the mobile site on their Androids)

I uninstalled it a couple of months ago. What annoyed me was it would update weekly and every single time it wouldn't leave the icon on the homescreen, so I had a blank space every time it updated (far too often, using data). I got fed up of keep recreating the homescreen icon.

When it wanted to automatically show my camera-roll at the top I took a dislike as I didn't want all my pictures there.

It's not optimised very well at all. Same goes for messenger. Nearly 100MB each for what is essentially an app to display the website with a bit of bling added. Instagram's app by comparison is only 25MB on iOS.

Takes about four minutes on my Samsung S4 Mini (dual-core 1.7GHz Krait), by far the longest of any web-service type app which I have installed. Then you can add another couple of minutes or so to move it to the SD card so that it doesn't take up quite so much internal storage. Not something to be done on battery power.

Do you Android folks get the annoying prompt to enable notifications on the Messenger app? Despite choosing "not now" and disabling notifications a thousand times, I still get the prompt

It's a minor thing but it winds me up

Yes I sometimes do.
At times I get fed up when the Facebook app needs updating. As it can take a min or two to install.
I'm using a Nexus 4 and Android lollipop 5.1.1. I been looking at maybe upgrading to the Nexus 5x early next year.

I am one of the "brave" I am part of their beta group on (ironically) Google+.

Changes are frequent, in fact 3-5 times a week something changes, not always for the better. What makes me smile is people not in the beta group actually get features before I do, thus no reward for me!

I uninstalled it the other day, which has turned out to be better than letting it suck up battery power to update.
