Why do people think characters can only come back when they have links in the show ?
My example:
What if Nigel Bates came back to EastEnders , especially after Dot left ? Why would he need previous links to characters in order to have storylines? I can not understand this thinking ... can't he get up to things without people he previously knew being there ? A man came back years later to live in the estate I am in, all his family had gone to live in Sussex, but he came back and bought a flat here ... said he likes the area, etc Thoughts ? |

The obvious answer is that you need recognition from at least a couple of characters (and a reason for coming back) to make an impact. Otherwise, it's pointless bringing them back. You might as well create a new character.

Mandy Salter Brad Willis etc It annoys me too OP. Anyone can return really as long as they have a story. |

It makes no sense. If characters can only come back if they have links then how do you explain bringing in brand new characters with no links? Everyone has to start somewhere. It should be no different for returnees. If the writers want old characters back but can't find anything worthwhile for them to do it's the fault of the writers. Most of the time they can't find anything worthwhile for new characters to do either.

People are so narrow minded sometimes It would be nice to see Sue Osman or Punk Mary for example Or even Lofty Holloway , I reckon he would fit right in current East Enders |

Thinking about it, Ian, Kathy, Sharon and Dot would remember early days characters, so someone like Nigel coming back could work.

Corrie managed to bring Jed Stone back after 42-years and the only character who recognized him was Emily. Heck, his return scenes took place away from the street when he was being harassed by Tony Gordon.
Having characters with no links returning is not as unrealistic as returnees with connections to the street, but decide to forget about the life they made away from the area and moving into someone's home, for example Sarah forgetting her life in Milan and moving into her brother's house. |

Any alive character could come back.
They could simply moght want to learn about family history. Ali Jnr would suit this or anyone who left as a child. Others just get a job nearby or move back. Debbie, Mary, Nigel and many could auit this. Others through a new arrival who did the 2nd option. Via relationship or family tie. Then most just have a family member or friend in the show. |

Nigel was Grants best mate And where have you got the idea that Nigel was linked to Mick and Linda's old pub? and Lorna was to.do with Phil, and she left before Nigel Wasn't Nigel married to that teacher , and went to Scotland with her and Claire ? |

IMO they would have no place in today's EE, it's moved on so much since then.
