The OP has just clarified that it's not just about food. Don't people read threads?
That said it would have been helpful OP if this had not been posted in food and drink.

Like I already said OP set a limit on spend for prezzies. Oh and maybe tell people outside the family what you are doing.

Where does the OP mention presents? I can only read what's written - In a Food & Drink forum.

What time are you going? I am sitting here playing chicken with myself

Our store doesn't close until 6.

Just so you lot can have a laugh at my expense.

I went to Marks & Sparks around mid-day and got everything I need for dinner tomorrow. I paid full price for it all spending £123.

That'll teach me not to dish out 'advice'.

I read your advice and popped in there first thing. I soon popped out again when I saw the price of everything, and no sign of any last minute goose bargains . Anyway thanks for getting me up early, I still managed to get what I needed at Tesco.

They must have decided not to mark anything down this year. Tesco were just starting to when I arrived at 2pm but I couldn't be bothered staying any longer so I bought my ham and left

I work in tesco and they seem to have got the stock levels spot on this year. I wasn't working today but apparently there wasn't much at all left of the Christmas ranges come mid afternoon. Also none of the "normal" food has use by 24th or 25th on, so none of that will need reduced until Boxing Day (for the items that have the 26th on).

I am sure your food will be tasty, if not the bargain you hoped for. Enjoy and Merry Christmas!

That'll teach you to tell the assistant your plan. She was probably an undercover spy.

Is it possible to have a decent Christmas on this budget ?
Any suggestions please ?
There is just me and the wife an we don't drink alcohol, so there's no money to be spent there !”

Hope you did OK. I suspect you probably did.

Each year I come to the same conclusion.. a lot of the Christmas "tick list" is just that.. a pointless tick list exercise. I bought so much food that I didn't touch this Christmas and will likely be consumed during "normal days" in between Christmas and New Year when all of the shops are open. It's madness. Granted I live alone so I'm not having to entertain a huge family with food.. but I think the same applies. Why do we buy boxes of mince pies.. chocolates.. crisps.. bottles of coke.. lots of alcohol.. crackers.. cheese.. etc etc.

IMHO you can have a "decent" Christmas by just treating Christmas Day like a Sunday and have a nice roast.. with something nice for desert and some treats. That can easily be done for £60. A lot less actually. Something else I recommend is start looking for bargains in November. Foods like Crisps for example may be on offer that last well into the following year. Stash them in a cupboard.
