Will we remember Jay's showdance as another puppetgate?

For me it was excellent. All technicality and zero showing off. Aliona played it right. The judges are playing a game tonight. I can accept 40 for KKs first dance but not the show dance.

That was the worst bit of it for me. I must be a bit of a dance philistine because I didn't understand it all all What did it have to do with the dance?
i don't think there is a 'right' or 'wrong' about it - despite what some people try to tell you!. I wouldn't have wanted him to continue doing acrobatics or anything, but that was the only 'new' thing in the dance and in that sense you are right, because it had nothing to do with the rest of it. i want a showdance to show me something different and unexpected

I didn't dislike it at all. It was just a bit flat. Apart from the odd beginning bit.

Though we now know he can hang upside down and spin. So that's new

Real let down all night for Jay. This is exactly why he needed to play his jive as the ace now. Is the paso going to do that?

Still think he's won.
Agree, I thought it would be by the song when I first heard it, it doesn't go anywhere. But I didn't think it would be quite like that. Nothing happened and it just wasn't good.

As I said elsewhere, they weren't very together either.

Jay is capable of wow moments, we've seen them, but this wasn't it.

A trip down memory lane, which included no jive steps, his best dance!

Jay's dance was how show dances of years ago actually used to be. Showcasing how the celeb had mastered various technique and improved. Aliona did that and when you watch it back it's faultless. Preferred it to K & K's manic efforts. And their Tango was awful - she was even smiling through it. Blatant over promoting of K & K - disgraceful.

As I posted on another thread I found Lens attitude to Jay quite strange tonight. No I'm the things he said so much , more to do with his whole demeanor.

The very last bit before the 'drop' ending was from the jive

They used the very end section of his jive with the hair smoothing, but yes, no steps

I agree with Craig's comment - 'it was a cop-out'.
Very underwhelming - puppet-gate did spring to mind.
They may have blown it - with that dull show-dance which wasn't a show-dance plus their inexplicable and perverse decision not to do their Jive. Their decisions have a touch of arrogance which could well be their downfall.
The whole final from them has been a cop out. That show dance and then no jive, for various reasons, none of which make sense.
Cop out, leave it all out there on the floor like Kellie just did!

It was beautifully danced but, he is capable of so much more. I was expecting a Natalie and Artem type showdance. Dazzling, spectacular and full of razzamatazz and I think that was also the expectation of the judges.

I don't think it will cost him like puppetgate but, all those Anita voters probably haven't transferred their votes to his routines so far tonight.
I voted for Anita every week until she went out but voted for Jay tonight.

I think it will be his 'puppet' dance if he loses.

I don't remember much about the dance at all other than I was left feeling incredibly deflated and disappointed at the end. When I heard the music earlier this week, I thought it was dreadful but I was hoping that Aliona would choreograph something good that would suit Jay's laidback style but could still wow.

I had wondered if production put that in yesterday after seeing it with nothing in it to impact on it. Throw in a bit of ariel work at least, that's something.

Aliona's good with the suds and I hear Jay's very modern like that, too

Hardly a cop out, they danced really well and focused on dance ability rather than lifts and tricks which to be honest I don't really care about that much. It was a very Jay-style showdance, I think most people who love him seemed to enjoy it (me included), but I can understand why non-fans were not so impressed.

Tom Chambers did the best showdance ever and won. Then Natalie Gumede topped it with the best showdance ever ever and didn't win. Ihad cast my 3 votes after the first set of dances so the showdance didn't have any effect.

To me it felt like he was throwing some disconnected moves "in da club".

Flat, lacklustre. Where was the "show" in that?

Given Aliona's previous efforts, she has 3 out of 3 for horrid showdances.

But no actual steps. The smoothing of hair and a drop is not what made that jive so great and one of the greatest dances. It was the fact his feet and jive action was unbelievable for anyone who had never done jive before.

I thought the whole vibe of the show felt strange tonight. The judges are usually heaping good humour and good comments all round on finals night, and today they seemed very snippy and picky to most of the couples.

Left me on a bit of a downer, not just for Jay but for Katie too.

Agreed, but, the most memorable ones (Tom and Camilla, Natalie and Artem to name two) also added that little "something" extra that made them so special on the night. Sadly (imho) Jay's didn't.

I voted for Anita every week until she went out but voted for Jay tonight.
Same here but, transferred over to K&K.

Agreed Arcana - it's too forgettable to be another puppet gate, or bacofoil!
I agree it was forgettable, but it will be memorable for being a disappointment from a couple who could have been spectacular in the final.

I don't think it is reminiscent of the early showdances. I think it was intended to be like that, but I don't think Aliona got the blend of techniques she danced with Jay right. If they had longer to dance they might have got there. Sadly I think Aliona got it wrong tonight, but they could easily still win because of their huge fan base. I don't think there's any favouritism going on.

Jay has cruised through on a wave of support from menopausal women wanting to mother him, and those blinded by his looks. If he doesnt win, I will eat my hat. 10 times over.
