I think the problem with this is that it seems at odds with the longstanding anti-Jay argument that due to his "extensive training" he's too good to be with all the novices. If we're to take this newest argument that his popularity is all down to the Jive then there's a flaw with that; why didn't the jive get full marks? After all the judges reiterated last night it was one of the best dances on Strictly ever, if so then why did it not get a 40 and lesser dances have? The most charitable explanation is that it occurred too early in the series and the judges bar Bruno couldn't justify getting their ten paddles out that early - but surely a dance is worth what it's worth regardless, right?

Likewise why do the judges get more generous with those ten paddles in Blackpool unless of course you're unfortunate to go on first. Of course this is a level of manipulation a lot of the fans are aware of and (grudgingly) accept but it's more than enough to discount the judges input as the true version of events.

I can't remember which dance (I think it may have been Jay's first Paso) that the only criticism he could muster was his thumb was sticking up as some great sin yet gleefully told Georgia that he would overlook her mistake. Craig cares about technical skill until he doesn't. This kind of thing is standard with all the judges and again most fans accept this as part of the panto unless it impacts their favorite.

What we got last night though felt like a full blown Kellie love-in. I think it went to another level and made it very confusing for anyone other than Kellie to win and really highlights the shows narrative isn't to be trusted either.”

But not the series overall - if you believe the judges were right on Saturday you must believe they were out throughout and, up to the final, Jay was leading the averages. Kellie's marks brought her level. Many people, even those who do not support Jay and Aliona, say the Jive was undermarked. If it marked higher Jay would have had a higher average overall.

As I said on another thread - and people wonder why there's so much ill-feeling on the forum.

Lindy Hop borrowed lots of moves from Charleston, so it's similar.

He had the top score for five of his dances spread out across the competition so I don't think his trajectory was all at the beginning. He had the highest scores for AT (which they didn't actually like much according to their comments), Jive (obviously), Paso Doble, Rumba and Salsa.

Which is irrelevant when people are told to vote for their favourite dancer and not the best dancer.

I am pleased Jay won.

Kellie was always good and consistent, but I think her screaming and jumping - and dare I say it Kevin - didn't help her with the public. I also felt in a couple of dances she was over marked.

I think Darcy and perhaps Bruno were the only judges who 'liked' Jay. I loved his dancing - his arms and hands particularly. His showdance was mediocre, but that was down to Aliona's choreography, which up until then, had been pretty good.

I particularly remember Adam Garcia's support for Jay when he said he had really improved/progressed throughout the series.

I hope the tabloids stop saying Jay wasn't a worthy winner - he was. I hope he receives lots of work as a result of this and enjoys his win.

What is a "Charleston outfit" - and what also would you say is a "Lindy Hop outfit"? Looking back at various Charlestons from this and earlier series' there is apparently no such thing, as the outfits worn have usually been a reflection of the music and theme chosen.

The Lindy Hop's roots are in the time era as the Charleston and other jazz-influenced dances(1920s/30s), so on that basis, the costume chosen was entirely appropriate.
