It's a shame Aliona's leaving but I'm not surprised at all. At least this time it's on her terms and on a high.

Anton mentioned on BBC Look North (Humberside and Lincolnshire) last night he was coming back for next year.
Not sure how he can say that given the contracts don't get sorted out until the Spring - that's always been the way and Aljaz & Janette confirmed on their OK magazine blog that the pro lineup will be sorted out over the next few months.

As Zoe said on ITT, now Ola has gone , who will wear the cat suits? Seriously though, the dancers have changed on a regular basis, people dropping out and new faces coming in. It makes for a fresher show, or it could get 'samey'. We don't need to worry until next August and anything could happen by then.
But please, replace Ian Waite on ITT!!

I think Anton and Brendan are always going to get their contract renewed because they are originals so they know it's there's if they want it. I actually don't have a major problem with that - there's a place for Anton, just not with a potential contender like he had this year.

I agree with those wishing Trent would return - I've been re-watching pro dances from last season and he really did catch the eye.

I hope Tristan stays and he gets a good partner because I really like him. I like Kevin aswell but it's about time he had an Anne Widdicombe.

Ola. Kristina. I adore her, but think Aliona might walk. How does she top being the first to win twice? I'm not sure Natalie will do more than one more year. I feel like Brendan and Anton will cling on until the end of time.

I think the pro line up will look very different next year.
I really hope they give Natalie someone good next year. It would be nice to see what she can do with someone talented now she's good naturedly worked with enough no hopers to make people really like her - and also she put together some cracking routines for Ricky W and Scott it'd be nice to have more of that before she goes.

Agreed - one of the few male pros I've fancied too.

I can see Oti rocking a cat suit I hope she stays she's seems like a lot of fun and we've not got to see what she can do.

Agreed his and Pixie foxtrot to When I'm 64 I thought was a brilliant routine - I don't know why he didn't come back.

I think Brendan would actually make a good judge and would be a better fit there than as a dancer. He's seems a bit tired and to not have much chemistry with his celebs these days.

Brendan always seems so supportive to the other celebs, just not necessarily his own partners so you might be onto something there.

Trent could have returned but he made a condition of his return that his wife Gordana be invited on the show as a female pro. The beeb said no so he did not come back. I'm another fan of him and his choreography; a talent in both latin and standard ballroom who managed to create a memorable foxtrot!

Even when I disagreed with the judges, I don't think they've ever been nasty as such. People need to watch the X Factor and then they will be thankful for the Strictly judges.
I actually think the judges soft pedal criticism these days because they have realised that it just makes the public root for the poor ickle person on the receiving end of it and keep them in longer. They've learnt this other the years from a series of awful contestants lingering at the expense of ones with potential - soft pedalling the crit actually means the turds flush quicker so to speak.

I wonder what happened last night then when they didn't pick up the phone to vote for this very popular in the real world guy..odd
Maybe because most people actually really don't care about the pros apart from Anton and they didn't like Kellie or possibly thought she was utterly over-marked. Also maybe they just liked Jay and/or Georgia more - Kellie still made the last three so people obviously don't hate Kevin that much.

Oh yes they do!

I'm a fan of James and Ola, and Anton and Erin and used to vote for them despite who they were dancing with.

Many of the pros have their own fanbases who will carry them further than their celebs talent might indicate - Natalie, Anton, Iveta, and several of the others too - particularly if they are with one of the lesser known celebs
There's an element that do but I think if you interviewed most people who watched Strictly they'd be hard pushed have an opinion on anyone bar Anton.

The judging system, is a bit of a nonsense.

To be fair the score should be split between "contents of programme and manner of presentation."

Then a small mistake in a complex programme wouldn't necessary be the "disaster" it is compared with a well executed "safer routine."

Jay and Aliona's showdance would have scored far higher, if that system were in place.

But you'd need four judges who all had the technical knowledge as well as ballroom experience.

But it's never going to happen, the show works well enough to attract the ratings as it is with the less than professional team we have presently, whose first priority seems to trying to grab as much attention for themselves as possible.
I agree it works with skating - technical merit and artistic impression. It could be achieved if you had two judges marking on technique and two on the performance side and it could be entertaining giving the judges a defined role. I like to hear about the technique and sometimes I spot something looks wrong and its nice to hear a judge explain why.
